Liverpool were one of a number of clubs present midweek at Benfica’s Champions League draw with Besiktas.
This was due to the number of talented young players in their lineup, and we’ve found out the four stars our scouts were paying particular attention to.
First up is Gonçalo Guedes – a 19-year-old playmaker who’s been consistently linked to Chelsea and Manchester United in the past. He’s terrifically talented but would come with a crazy price-tag as he’s become a household wonderkid.

Next is Victor Lindelof, nicknamed ‘Iceman’ in Portugal because of his Swedish roots… He’s 22 and is as solid as he is tough. Lindelof has earned a regular spot in the starting XI now, and interestingly, can play at right-back too.
Perhaps most intriguingly, Alex Grimaldo is the next on our radar. He’s 20 and plays at left-back. The Spaniard is a former Barcelona B player who moved to Benfica in the summer. Already Grimaldo has established himself as first-choice left-back, a position we could obviously do with some cover…
Finally Eduardo Salvio, the 26-year-old Argentine, was also mentioned. Salvio can play anywhere in the frontline, but in truth – we can’t see him being a realistic target at any point. He’s worse than our current options in the final third and isn’t of the age where there’s plenty of room for improvement.
So watch this space! If we make any future bids for these stars, remember you heard it here first!
