Jamie Carragher will forever be associated with Liverpool and his work for CBS always showcases his legacy as a Champions League winner at Anfield but Harry Kane had to correct the former defender.

Speaking after scoring twice for Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the England captain was asked to confirm if he and the Scouser had been texting before the match.

It was a jovial exchange though and our ex-vice-captain dealt with the situation in typical comic style!

Does giving Jayden Danns the moniker of the next Harry Kane pile unnecessary pressure onto his shoulders?

I considered this before writing the headline, but this is a young lad who’s just come on in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley and thrived in the situation. Danns is a kid who’s bagged a brace on his Anfield debut with two of the calmest finishes you’ll see all season….

I reckon he quite likes the pressure, actually.

And besides, I’m not the only one saying it!

The son of former Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns was practically unknown just a few weeks ago, but he’s the latest Academy Graduate to announce himself loudly and brashly.

Already this term, Jarrell Quansah and Conor Bradley have become first-team footballers, with Bobby Clark and James McConnell increasingly trusted by Jurgen Klopp in midfield.

Quansah has been quietly exceptional. He’s strong, positionally aware and is composed on the ball like Virgil van Dijk, his mentor. Bradley is our right-footed Andy Robertson. Feisty and quick with lethal end product.

There’s always something slightly more exciting about a youngster coming through when they’re an attacker, though, rightly or wrongly.

And Danns is just that. A Scouser who’s just turned 18, with two goals versus Southampton, a very-nearly-assist against Luton and a League Cup win over Chelsea to his name; having played just over an hour of professional football so far.

Most of the time when a player gets compared to someone who went before him, it’s fairly lazy analysis. Any Argentine under the height of 6ft’ is compared to Messi and Maradona before they turn 20. Bruno Cheyrou was dubbed the next Zinedine Zidane, remember.

But with Danns, the resemblance is uncanny. He runs like Harry Kane. They have the same gait and are faster than they actually look. They sprint powerfully over a few metres and show superb anticipation to where balls will drop. Danns is a no.9 who likes to drop deep and link-up play, too. His finishing is clearly a strong point, with over 20 goals for our youth sides this season, adding to his Anfield FA Cup brace.

His first goal last night showed composure and technical proficiency; chipping the ball over the onrushing keeper without having to even look. Darwin Nunez would have scored 40 goals this season if he had that one in his locker. (The ridiculous scoop versus Brentford is not repeatable and shouldn’t count as evidence of better finishing!)

Danns’ second last night is just as impressive. He shows great awareness and striker’s instincts to get ahead of the defender and slams home with a powerful instep finish. Without wanting to ram the point home too much, it’s exactly how Kane would have taken both goals.

In all three appearances he’s earned himself headed chances in the box, too. This isn’t a fluke. It’s great movement and the timing of his leaps have been great. A real no.9 can score aerially or from the floor.

You can see the stylistic similarities in this video below, showing some of Danns’ youth goals this season. Squint and it’s Kane…

Unlike the England captain, Danns already has a trophy to his name, of course – and hopefully will add to it this season.

Now, the job for Danns is more minutes and to keep knocking on Klopp’s door for opportunities. I’m pretty sure he’ll feature against Sparta Prague in the Europa League and I cannot wait to see him again. Then, he has to impress a new manager in the summer. One of the saddest things about Klopp leaving is that he won’t see the journey of these Academy lads, but he’ll always be the boss who was brave enough to give them their start.

At the beginning of the season I was convinced Liverpool needed a new right-back, centre-back, holding midfielder and another winger – even after the transfer window shut.

Bradley and Quansah are our new defenders though, and the collection of Clark, McConnell and even the prodigal Trey Nyoni provide enough depth in the middle, even with the most ridiculous of injury crises. Danns is the wildcard. Nobody was even touting him at Christmas so to have an exciting finisher coming through the ranks – someone who can learn off our already world-class attackers – is brilliant.

Perhaps Klopp will see what he has to offer versus Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Liverpool fans have a new starlet to adore after the 4-1 win over Luton on Wednesday night, a match that Jayden Danns will never forget.

The 18-year-old was introduced off the bench in the closing minutes for his first-team debut, having never been included in a senior matchday squad prior to that game (Transfermarkt).

Hardcore Reds supporters will already have been familiar with the teenager, though, due to his phenomenal goalscoring exploits in the underage ranks, netting 16 times in as many appearances at youth team level this season (Transfermarkt).

While Dans was only on the pitch for long enough to take four touches and complete two passes, many Liverpool fans still saw sufficient evidence to draw comparisons with a certain Harry Kane, who’s netted almost 400 times in his senior club and international career (Transfermarkt).

Check out these glowing comparisons from some Reds supporters on X (formerly Twitter):

According to reports from Germany, Liverpool are interested in one of the brightest young prospects in world football amid claims that he’s disenchanted at his current club.

SportBILD claimed that the Reds are among several ‘top clubs’ from England who have Jamal Musiala ‘on their list’, and there have been murmurs that the 20-year-old is unhappy at Bayern Munich.

Talks over a new contract are believed to be on hold, with the 2023 Golden Boy nominee preferring to ‘wait and see’ how things develop at the Allianz Arena.

The report states that the Germany international is ‘too polite to express his anger publicly’ over a lack of starts in the Bundesliga this term, with his frequent consignment to the substitutes’ bench ‘gnawing at’ the young midfielder.

Despite only turning 20 last February, Musiala has already surpassed 150 senior appearances for Bayern and Germany combined (Transfermarkt), and he’s regarded as one of the hottest young talents in the world.

Harry Kane, who joined him in Munich over the summer, has called the midfield prodigy ‘fantastic to play with’ (TNT Sports, via bundesliga.com), with the youngster already making a big impression on England’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The German is a dazzling number 10 who gets fans off their seats with his exceptional dribbling ability, ranking in the top 1% of positional peers in Europe’s five main leagues over the past year for successful take-ons with 3.9 per game (FBref).

A scoring return of 32 goals (plus 25 assists) in 133 games for Bayern is also quite respectable, and even though Jurgen Klopp doesn’t typically deploy a playmaker just behind the front three, Musiala is such an outstanding talent that he might just make the Liverpool boss reconsider.

Of course, the Reds would need to go large to sign him, with CIES Football Observatory citing his current market value at €150m (£130m), although we had apparently been willing to stump up £111m for Moises Caicedo just two months ago (BBC Sport).

It doesn’t seem overly likely that FSG would push the boat out for the 20-year-old any time soon, although his reported dissatisfaction in Munich might just pluck the ears of some powerful figures within the Anfield boardroom.

The departure of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi top-flight will leave a void of considerable proportions in the Liverpool squad.

The dilemma now facing the Reds is whether they must recruit experience equal to that which has departed or start afresh with younger talent.

That choice could become easier for Jurgen Klopp and Co. with Kicker (via FourFourTwo) now reporting that Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich could be sold to help the club snap up mega-money signing Harry Kane.

Leon Goretzka and Sadio Mane have likewise been linked with exits, though it remains to be seen whether a genuinely world-class midfielder will be allowed to depart Bavaria this summer.

Whether we can afford him too is another question entirely, of course, and it’s entirely possible that landing the likes of a Manu Kone or a Romeo Lavia may prove more palatable when planning ahead for the future.

If Liverpool want an option in the squad capable of filing out as a No.6 and No.8 with bags of experience in the Champions League and top-tier league football, however, they need look no further than Kimmich.

If he is indeed available and for a price we’d be willing to contemplate.

Liverpool fans are expecting a busy summer of transfer business but one pundit has touted a double move that would shake the footballing world if we could pull it off.

Speaking on talkSPORT (via HITC), Alan Brazil said: “What if Harry [Kane] and Declan [Rice] both went to Liverpool? Where is [Harry Kane] going to go? He can’t go to Arsenal. Chelsea and Spurs hate each other.”

To land either Harry Kane or Declan Rice would be quite hard to believe but both and in the same transfer window – that seems far-fetched even for the outspoken broadcaster.

The Reds seemed to make a public step back from Jude Bellingham, in search of multiple players in one window instead of blowing the budget on one target.

Although this is obviously two players, it seems unlikely that either of them will arrive cheaply and so the chances of pulling off the deal is quite frankly bordering on impossible.

The price tag for either player is likely to be extortionate and so it’s safe to say that we can class this in the pool of ideas that will never happen.

Harry Kane singled out one Liverpool player for praise following the Reds’ 4-3 victory over Tottenham at Anfield yesterday.

Spurs found themselves three goals down inside 15 minutes but the England captain’s first-half strike began a comeback which saw the visitors draw level before Diogo Jota’s stoppage time winner.

The striker referenced some ‘good saves‘ made by Alisson when speaking to his club’s official Twitter channel after the match, adding that he felt Ryan Mason’s team ‘had the better chances‘ and ‘hit the post a few times‘.

As per Sofascore, the Liverpool goalkeeper pulled off three saves at Anfield on Sunday (Fraser Forster had none), while also winning 100% of his duels, although his 74% passing accuracy was the lowest of anyone who started for the Reds.

While our number one mightn’t have made any eye-catching stops against Spurs, unlike in other games this season where we were indebted to him, it was still a solid display overall from the 30-year-old, and it was pleasing to hear the recognition from one of the Premier League’s most potent strikers in Kane.

Harry Kane has welcomed the challenge posed by Liverpool and Manchester City’s signings of Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland respectively, one he expects will improve him.

The race for the golden boot looks set to have become even more intriguing following the additions in question, with the likes of the Tottenham striker and current joint-holder Mo Salah sure to compete fiercely for the individual award.

“The Premier League has produced some top strikers from around the world for a number of years now,” the England skipper told reporters in comments relayed by BBC Sport.

“Every season I’ve been playing it has always been a tough battle. You expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League and with those two new signings that is going to be the case.

“It helps me as a player to have good competition. It drives me to improve and get better and I look forward to the challenge.”

The Uruguayan international posted impressive numbers in Portugal, registering 34 goals in 41 games (across all competitions & a goal every 82.97 minutes), a goal rate just exceeded by Borussia Dortmund’s old hitman who found the net 29 times in 30 games (a goal every 82.34 minutes).

There’s a great deal of debate as to which of the two players will come out on top in their maiden seasons in the English top-flight.

That’s a difficult question to answer given that both transfers will possibly encourage tactical rethinks from their respective managers, even if only slight ones.

On our end, the successful nature of Luis Diaz’s move to Anfield will give fans hope that Nunez can follow a similar path and light up the Premier League at his first attempt.

There’s no doubting that the England captain would score plenty of goals in Jurgen Klopp’s side and could very well be a brilliant signing for the Reds.

However, with us now set to break the bank on the Benfica striker and him being six years younger than the Tottenham Hotspur man – this deal will never happen.

If we do sign the Uruguayan though, it shows that FSG have the facility to make a huge marquee signing when we need and want to.

In what seems to be one of the most surprising transfer links in recent memory, Harry Kane has become a name churned out by the Liverpool rumour mill.

Odds have been slashed to 9/1 after recent rumours have been circling online and now many supporters are talking about what the Tottenham Hotspur man could provide for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The obvious answer is goals and with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, it’s believed the Reds could secure a deal for around £40 million.

READ MORE: “Revenge! Payback!” – Jurgen Klopp on the mindset within the Liverpool squad for revenge against Real Madrid for Kyiv in 2018

Despite the growing excitement, or apprehension, from many – there are still no reputable sources backing these rumours up and so it does need to be taken with a wheelbarrow of salt.

It does seem like a move that wouldn’t work in the FSG business model too and one that would only go through if we were to lose one or two of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane or Bobby Firmino.

In that instance, many wouldn’t be too happy to see a player come in that doesn’t seemingly work in the game plan of our boss.

If this is to ever be believed, we’ll have to see if any journalist that has a track record in calling these type of deals backs it up.

Ibrahima Konate has matched Harry Kane and Neymar’s Champions League knockout goals tally over the course of the last five seasons in his last two games against Benfica.

This comes courtesy of a tweet from freelance writer, Andrew Beasley, following Liverpool’s 6-4 aggregate victory over the Eagles in the quarter-final.

The Merseysiders’ positive overall result has seen them secure passage through to the next stage of the competition and a two-legged clash with ‘king of cups’ Unai Emery.

It’s a pretty remarkable stat to have accrued early in his Anfield career, and it’s more than promising to have a man in our ranks capable of chipping with the odd few goals in integral games.

The Frenchman has been a superb contributor when called upon this season – much in the same vein as Kostas Tsimikas – providing some great competition to the in-form Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.

Whilst the time isn’t yet ripe for the former RB Leipzig centre-half to take his place alongside our Dutch No.4, there’s plenty to be excited about with regard to his future in the famous red shirt.

Ian Wright has suggested that Harry Kane could replace Bobby Firmino at Liverpool due to the Englishman’s ability to orchestrate play from a deeper position.

Kane and fellow Spurs star Heung-min Son replaced Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard as the two players with the most goal combinations in Premier League history recently with a whopping 37.

Firmino has become known as one of Europe’s best false-nines in recent seasons with his selfless style of play allowing those around him to flourish, something Wright highlighted that Kane is also capable of doing.

“If I had the capability of get Harry Kane and putting him in Liverpool’s full side with Salah or Mane or Luiz and playing as the number 9, dropping deep and doing his stuff,” Wright told The Kelly & Wrighty Show (via HITC).

“It won’t be how Firmino does it, that lovely bit of skills and stuff, but he can drop in and help create because them two could run behind.

“If it was available to me, I would definitely look into it because it’s Harry Kane, and he will score. People talk about Firmino that he doesn’t score enough goals, he misses too many. Harry Kane doesn’t miss those chances.”

Our No. 9’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, as is Mo Salah’s and Sadio Mane’s, so the club may be tempted to make a move for a new attacker that can play centrally.

Our latest attacking additions, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, are both capable of performing well down the middle but reinforcements in the area would be required if any of our famous trio were to leave the club.

After Kane looked to force a move away from Spurs last summer, something that never happened, the 28-year-old began the season rather slowly.

So far this term, though, the England international has 22 goals in 41 appearances and has also registered six assists (across all competitions).

His contract with the North London club is set to expire in 2024 meaning it would take a big fee to bring him to Merseyside anytime before then, but we can certainly understand where Wright is coming from.

It’s not a move that we can see happening if we’re honest, but can you imagine how many goals Kane would score if he was in our side?

Following Liverpool’s dramatic comeback win against Norwich City, the Reds could be set to be handed further hope in the title race.

After Manchester City restored parity before half-time in their clash with Tottenham, Harry Kane returned with the third goal of the evening to launch Spurs back into the lead at the Etihad.

With the Merseysiders having already secured three points at Anfield, a win for Antonio Conte’s men would open the door for the former to cut the deficit between themselves and the Cityzens down to three points.
