The latest on key Spurs’ injuries ahead of Champions League final

Tottenham are expected to have many of their star names back in time to face the Reds in the Champions League final on June 1, according to a report in the Independent.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad has been heavily hit with injury blows over the last month or so, but key men Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli are all hopeful of being fit.

Meanwhile, Danny Rose, Davinson Sanchez and Harry Winks are still on the road to recovery, but are expected to be back in time.

Vertonghen is said to be ‘increasingly optimistic’ that he will return for the Champions League final.

After the semi-final against Ajax, he told Dutch TV: “My ankle is swollen and I played the second-half on adrenaline. I could not put weight on my foot after the game, but the first tests were positive and I will know soon if I will make the final. I am hopeful.”

On Dele, Pochettino said: “I do not think it is a problem.”

Star striker Kane, who was initially meant to be missing the UEFA Nations League which is later the same week as the final in Madrid, also seems to be recovering faster than first thought.

He said following Spurs’ victory over Ajax: “Rehab is going well so far. I start straight-line running this week, that was why I was okay to straight-line run [onto the pitch at the end]! I did not want to cut any corners.

“We just see. So far, so good. If it carries on how it should then I would hope to be [fit], but there is still a few weeks to go.”

Whoever Spurs select in their starting XI, the Reds can be confident of coming out on top in the game, having already beaten them twice this season – once more, and number six will be coming back to Anfield!
