Jordan Henderson was brought on with the game already over at El Stadio Dragao last night, but that didn’t stop him taking it by the scruff of its neck.
Again used by Jurgen Klopp in an advanced, forward passing midfield role, the skipper got an assist for Roberto Firmino’s goal, made another big chance and two smaller ones – in less than half an hour!
In fact, he made more chances than any player on the pitch, despite being on the field for less than a third of the game – as this tweet explains:
Jordan Henderson’s game by numbers vs. Porto (22 minutes played):
100% take-ons completed
4 chances created (2 big chances)
4 ball recoveries
1 assistPlayed less than half an hour, created more chances than any other player. 😱 pic.twitter.com/bqizdRKI4w

Since Henderson was allowed a spot in his far more natural box-to-box midfield role, he’s been exemplary.
He’s on three assists and a goal in around 200 minutes of football since Jurgen Klopp took the decision to listen to his captain and deploy him further forward.
Now, on the basis of his superb recent form, Hendo is probably the first selection when it comes to picking our no.8s – with Gini Wijnalldum, James Milner and Naby Keita all vying for the other spot in the three-man midfield.
Versus Cardiff on Sunday, we reckon the boss will use Fabinho holding, with Henderson and Keita either side.
Hopefully this will be enough to the see Neil Warnock’s side put to the sword.
