Jude Bellingham has opened up once again on his decision to move to Real Madrid this summer.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder had been heavily linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last year, though was persuaded by the project in the Spanish capital.

The 20-year-old admitted he had spoken to other clubs – with the Merseysiders no doubt one of those outfits – but moving to Los Blancos was a ‘no-brainer’.

“I had good chats with loads of clubs – including Dortmund – and my family were great in helping me chew up that information,” the England international was quoted as telling reporters by the Independent.

“It’s difficult while you are still in the season to take in the information and process it and still have to play at the weekend or in the Champions League.

“I had conversations with other teams but when Madrid came in it was a no-brainer really. The size of the club, the project, the plan going forward, the chance to play with such amazing players.

“I just jumped at it. That’s why I made my decision.”

The ex-Bundesliga star has enjoyed a terrific opening campaign with Carlo Ancelotti’s men, registering 30 goal contributions in 34 games (across all competitions) this term.

Jude Bellingham at Liverpool would have been something

What an opportunity missed for Jurgen Klopp in his final season at Anfield!

That’s not to suggest our recruitment team failed to react appropriately to the news in question.

The signings of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo are already paying dividends, even if Ryan Gravenberch appears to be one for the future.

Still, we can’t help but wonder at the kind of impact Bellingham would have made in the famous red shirt!

Don Hutchison has named the one player that he’d love for Liverpool to sign if they could viably do so.

The former Reds midfielder was on ESPN FC alongside Steve Nicol when they were asked which footballer they’d bring to Anfield if they could do so, other than Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

The 52-year-old’s reply was instant: “Jude Bellingham, all day long. He’s got charisma. As Steve mentioned, he’d run all day, pass all day, score all day. He ticks every single box. Jude Bellingham by a mile.”

Of course, Liverpool had been strongly linked with the England superstar for some time before he ultimately joined Real Madrid last summer, a move which has so far worked out wonderfully for him and his club.

The 20-year-old midfielder has already netted 20 times in 33 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, proving to be worth every penny of his €103m (£88.2m) transfer fee.

Realistically it doesn’t seem any bit likely that the Reds would sign him in the foreseeable future, but if a viable opportunity were to present itself further down the line, we’re sure that every LFC fan would be thrilled to see Bellingham pulling on the iconic red shirt.

Jude Bellingham may now be plying his trade in Spain with La Liga giants Real Madrid but the Englishman was clearly keeping an eye on yesterday’s League Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea at Wembley.

The former Birmingham City ace sent a three-word message to Virgil van Dijk following the game after the Dutchman netted the only goal of the game in extra-time to win Jurgen Klopp’s side their 10th League Cup trophy.

Our No.4 uploaded a number of pictures to his Instagram account (spotted by @404NUNEZ on X)after our success at Wembley South alongside the caption: ‘That’s for you, LIVERPOOL! ❤‘.

A number of his teammates commented various replies under the post but the most notable came from Bellingham, reading: ‘What a player‘.

Bellingham broke the hearts of many Liverpool supporters last summer when he decided to move to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund despite strong reports suggesting Klopp’s side were interested in his signature.

The Madrid No.5 is enjoying a brilliant debut campaign in the Spanish capital – registering 20 goals and eight assists in 29 games (across all competitions) – and he’s proving that Carlo Ancelotti and Co. were right to splash an initial £88m on him (TNT Sports).

He’s stepped up on numerous occasions to help his side to victory – just as van Dijk did two minutes from time last night – and it’s nice to see the talented midfielder recognising the defender’s world-class ability.

How interested Liverpool fans are in Gary Linker’s glowing praise for Kylian Mbappe depends on how seriously they take reports linking the Frenchman with an Anfield switch.

The odds are indeed stacked against such an occurrence happening, yet it may interest some to hear that the former Barcelona hitman labelled the PSG star ‘probably’ the ‘number one’ player in world football.

“Kylian Mbappe is a genuine superstar. He is extraordinary,” the MOTD hosst spoke on The Rest is Football podcast. “If you are talking about the best players in the world, Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, but I think Mbappe is probably number one at the minute.”

You could make an argument for our former midfield target, of course, though it’s likewise hard to dispute the claim in question.

Mbappe is certainly nothing if not prolific, having registered a whopping 31 goals in 30 appearances this term.

Le Parisien (via TNT Sports) reported back in January that Liverpool remained ‘a credible option’.

We’re open to a surprise – we really are – but let’s face it, Mbappe is stepping within 10 feet of Merseyside. Unless he’s visiting during a Champions League clash.

Fenway Sports Group simply won’t tolerate breaking the wage cap yet again – not even for a player of the Frenchman’s quality.

That’s not necessarily disastrous for us, of course, given the remarkable assets we have at our disposal.

Jurgen Klopp has explained why Liverpool missed out on three of their most strongly-linked midfield targets in 2023.

The Reds’ long-running pursuit of Jude Bellingham ended in disappointment as the England superstar opted for a move to Real Madrid instead (talkSPORT), with that blow exacerbated by the subsequent abrupt departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

In August, LFC had actually agreed a fee with Brighton for Moises Caicedo, only for Chelsea to hijack that move with a £115m deal of their own, along with the Ecuadorian preferring to join the Blues (The Guardian).

Mauricio Pochettino’s side also beat Liverpool to the signing of Romeo Lavia, who was reportedly displeased at feeling like the Reds’ ‘second choice’ in their pursuit of a defensive midfielder and instead agreed a move to Stamford Bridge (The Guardian).

Thankfully, we managed to strengthen our midfield ranks with four summer signings who’ve all made a positive impact at Anfield, and Klopp was circumspect when reflecting on the trio on whom the club missed out.

The 56-year-old said (via CaughtOffside): “We were interested in Bellingham, then realised it would not happen as we’d have no money for anything else. Then all of a sudden the whole market for number sixes went up. We had our situation with two sixes left the club. The market heated up.

“Then we thought maybe we could do Caicedo. We’d already done [Alexis] Mac Allister [from Brighton] before, so we went in, but he had an emotional agreement already with Chelsea and Pochettino. All fine, so that’s it. Then Lavia had his own reasons, and we were there.”

Neither Caicedo (£115m) nor Lavia (£58m) has made much of an impact at Chelsea thus far, albeit with the latter suffering horrendous luck with injuries ever since he joined from Southampton.

The only one of the trio mentioned by Klopp who’s left a lingering sense of ‘what if’ is Bellingham, whose 18-goal tally from midfield for Real Madrid matches Mo Salah’s tally this season, and in one game fewer than Liverpool’s top scorer (Transfermarkt).

The initial £88.5m that Los Blancos paid for the Englishman already looks like money very well spent (BBC Sport), although the trade-off from the Reds’ point of view is that they wouldn’t have been able to replenish their midfield so extensively had they spent that amount on the 20-year-old.

Anfield chiefs may feel that, given the top-heavy volume of injuries that we’ve had to navigate this term, spending a reasonable outlay on four new midfielders – rather than going large on one player and leaving little left over for further additions – was a justifiable stance.

To be fair to Liverpool, it wasn’t as if they didn’t try to land Bellingham, Caicedo or Lavia; and if the preference of all three was a move elsewhere, it seems there’s little more the Merseysiders could’ve done in pursuit of that trio.

Looking back at it now, we’ve every reason to feel satisfied over how last summer’s transfer window turned out, even if it would’ve been glorious to have signed the England international.

Trent Alexander-Arnold recently and publicly made the switch to Adidas as his boot providers, something that happily coincided with the launch of the new Predators – although Darwin Nunez accidentally wore them first.

Thanks to exclusive sources, Empire of the Kop has learned that our No.9’s own boot contract came to an end in December and so he and his agent were shopping around for a new deal.

Nike is the company that has seemingly won the signature of the forward, with him wearing their products for the most recent games against Arsenal (although he changed his footwear at half-time at the Emirates), Newcastle United, Burnley and Arsenal (at Anfield in the Premier League).

READ MORE: Redknapp: ‘not many better in world football’ than LFC’s 24-y/o leader

However, the drama centres around the late December meeting with West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and a trial with Adidas for the match for our striker.

The former Benfica man didn’t want to fully commit to wearing the same brand as the Scouser in our team yet and so a trial was arranged in which he would sport the same boots as Joe Gomez – the Adidas Copas – for the cup clash.

You can imagine that both our No.66 and his attacking teammate were soon shocked to see that when they walked into the home dressing room for the cup clash with the Hammers, a brand-new pair of Predators were waiting for him.

It’s not just the fact that they were the wrong boot but that they were in a colourway but that was likely supposed to be first worn by the poster boys of the company – like our right-back in England and Jude Bellingham in Spain for Real Madrid.

With this boot mishap seemingly being discovered too late before kick-off for any new pairs to be found, and despite the probable jealousy from the England international, there was no alternative but for Darwin Nunez to be the first person to wear the lace-less version of the newest Predators that were eventually sported (with laces and a tongue) by Trent Alexander-Arnold in our most recent FA Cup tie and by Bellingham against Mallorca.

Trent Alexander-Arnold vs. Arsenal 07.01.24

Both of our players actually recorded assists in the game against David Moyes’ side too, although our academy graduate wasn’t to be outdone and grabbed himself two on the night.

Clearly the boots have some passing powers within them but given the seeming move to Nike, our vice-captain can enjoy being the main man at Anfield for Adidas Predators once again.

Jude Bellingham was among the lengthy queue of observers who were blown away by one Liverpool player’s performance in the FA Cup win over Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds were captained on the day by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the illness-enforced absence of Virgil van Dijk, and the 25-year-old inspired his team to victory over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

Our number 66 took to Instagram last night with a series of images from the match, along with the caption ‘FA Cup magic’.

The post elicited glowing appraisals from numerous Liverpool teammates as well as England colleague Bellingham, who simply replied with an exhale emoji to register his approval of the skipper’s performance.

It’s no wonder Bellingham was so complimentary of Trent’s performance on Sunday, with the stand-in Liverpool captain again showing why he’s such a phenomenal talent.

He was unlucky not to score with one effort just before half-time which cannoned off the crossbar, and it was his fizzing free kick that Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior diverted into his own net to break the deadlock late on.

In addition, the 25-year-old completed 78% of his passes (43/55), executed two key passes and five accurate long balls, and won six out of the nine duels that he contested (Sofascore).

Trent’s influence on this Liverpool team is growing with each passing week, and when someone as world-class as Bellingham is rushing onto Instagram to register his approval of the Reds’ number 66, that says quite a lot about what a special player we have as our vice-captain.

Danny Murphy appeared to suggest he’d happily have Jacob Ramsey in Liverpool’s squad.

The TalkSPORT pundit admitted the Aston Villa man was his ‘favourite player’ from Unai Emery’s side, whilst also namedropping Ezri Konsa and Douglas Luiz.

“Ramsey’s my favourite player,” the former Red spoke on Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE YouTube channel.

“From a defensive point of view, the one who’s improved for me is [Ezri] Konsa.

“How cool is he?”

Murphy went on to add: “He’s a super athlete, he’s good on the ball, calm, one on one he’s not bothered he’s cool.

“He’s been… when they signed Konsa, he initially did his cruciate, he partnered Mings and I thought Konsa would be more of a squad player, but now Konsa is one of the first on the sheet.”

The 22-year-old midfielder is an interesting mention as far as the Reds are concerned in light of his prior links to Anfield (GiveMeSport via TEAMtalk).

‘Lightly’ similar to Jude Bellingham?

That’s the verdict of Ryan Taylor, speaking to GiveMeSport prior to the summer window opening: “Personally, I think he would be a great fit for someone like Liverpool because of his energy in midfield.

“I would say, lightly, he is a player of a similar ilk to Jude Bellingham. Bellingham is a powerhouse and when you watch him play, he plays with authority and grabs games by the scruff of the neck.

“I don’t think Ramsey will grab games by the scruff of the neck, but I think he has that sort of energy from midfield, arrives in the box and scores goals.”

Goal contributions have been somewhat limited for the Villa star this term, though that’s mainly down to injuries, with him having missed 10 league games already.

Whether we’d be looking at adding Ramsey to our ranks at some later date remains to be seen given the energy and fresh legs we recruited this summer in the form of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

If he was on the shortlist before, of course, it’s always possible we’ll keep him in mind should an opportunity arise.

There were no words needed to describe Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decisive contribution in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday – at least if you’re Jude Bellingham.

The Reds’ number 66 capped a remarkable 80-second comeback with the winning goal in the closing stages at Anfield yesterday, just eight days after his late equaliser to earn his side a point away to Manchester City.

The 25-year-old took to Instagram afterwards to share photos of him celebrating his 88th-minute strike, along with the caption ‘Scenes’ and a face exhaling emoji hinting at relief to have come through a rollercoaster match victorious.

Trent’s England teammate Bellingham was among the plethora of people leaving comments in reply to the post, and the Real Madrid star simply shared the same emoji that Liverpool’s match-winner had included.

The 20-year-old is no stranger to responding to the Scouser’s Instagram activity, having also done so following the aforementioned draw at the Etihad Stadium recently.

The face that they both used the same emoji shows that the international colleagues are on the same wavelength as each other and brings to mind the expression ‘great minds think alike’!

The Reds salvaged a late point thanks to a Trent Alexander-Arnold equaliser, and the 25-year-old posted an image on the social media platform of his much-discussed ‘shush’ celebration at the Etihad Stadium.

He eschewed the use of a caption to go along with the photo, but plenty of his teammates at club and international level flooded the comments section with glowing praise.

England midfielder Bellingham was one of those, commending Liverpool’s number 66 with a simple two-word exclamation of ‘My boy’, accompanied by a salute emoji.

Some critics have tried to tarnish Trent’s display against Man City by pointing to him being dribbled past seven times, but there were plenty of positives from the 25-year-old even aside from his brilliantly taken goal.

As per Sofascore, he won five duels and three tackles, completed 76% of his passes, four long balls and two dribbles, and made two clearances and two interceptions.

Bellingham has been one of the most in-form players in world football since the start of the season, so for him to laud the Scouser for his performance at the Etihad is quite telling.

Trent will surely be appreciative of the praise from the Real Madrid star, and long may he continue to impress in the famous red shirt.

It’s quite the compliment to have Leo Messi rank you as the most impressive player in world football under the age of 21.

The Argentine’s votes for the Kopa Trophy would certainly suggest as much for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, with the German placed above Barcelona’s Pedri and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

It’s particularly interesting for Liverpool fans given the ongoing links between the Reds and the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.

Could Liverpool move for Musiala?

Christian Falk has already confirmed that we remain ‘very interested’ in the former Chelsea product, though, as one might rightly imagine, he’s sure to cost a pretty penny.

A current impasse over his contract situation has creaked open the door slightly for interested clubs to throw their hat into the ring,

Should Fichajes’ (via CaughtOffside) claim of a £86.7m asking price having been set be on the money, it’s difficult to imagine the trail of potential suitors being miles long.

For our part, we’re no strangers to committing big money to players our recruitment team are utterly convinced by. That said, it will ultimately depend a great deal on whether the player is considered a genuine Mo Salah successor – not to mention whether the Egyptian King opts to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the summer of 2024.

Danny Murphy has highly praised Dominik Szoboszlai and believes that the Liverpool midfielder would be receiving greater appreciation on a wider scale were it not for Jude Bellingham.

The Hungary playmaker has been an instant hit at Anfield since his summer move from RB Leipzig, scoring a couple of sublime goals and dominating matches with his irrepressible quality.

It could easily have been the England international doing that on Merseyside instead, with the Reds having been linked with the 20-year-old for months before he eventually moved to Real Madrid in June.

Bellingham has made a seismic impact at the Bernabeu already, netting 13 times in as many matches, including both of his team’s goals in their come-from-behind El Clasico triumph last weekend (Transfermarkt).

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Murphy claimed that Szoboszlai’s brilliance would be given wider attention only for the Englishman’s incredible form in LaLiga.

The former Reds midfielder said: “I’ve just got to say on Liverpool, I’ve actually been surprised how quickly some of them have adapted. I saw the game at the weekend. Szoboszlai, if it wasn’t for Jude Bellingham doing what he’s doing, I think we’d be talking a bit more about Szoboszlai.

“I’m saying that he has hit the ground running, looking so good, and people are recognising him, but because Bellingham has gone to another planet, everything’s about Bellingham.

“I know he’s in a different league, but we talk about Bellingham a lot. Szoboszlai has come in and he’s got it all. He’s a threat, he’s got good feet, he defends well.”

To be fair, Bellingham’s form in Spain has been so exceptional that it’d be wrong not to acknowledge it, but we’ll gladly take Szoboszlai given how magnificent he’s played so far for Liverpool.

If anything, it might be advantageous that he’s going a little under the radar, as it keeps the microscope focused elsewhere and allows him to simply get along with what he’s been doing!

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best attacking threats in the Liverpool squad and he’s scored 16 goals in the 281 appearances for the Reds in his career so far but his next one may be a little different.

After James Maddison took to social media to share an image of his post-match celebrations against Fulham, he also tagged in our No.66, Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson.

With the other two players already responding and seemingly joining in the trend of the salute celebration, perhaps the Scouser will follow suit when he next finds the back of the net.
