Tim Sherwood has nothing but good things to say about Liverpool’s Michael Edwards – a man who is famous for pulling off some incredible deals.
It was a little bit of a surprise when the Reds announced that they had signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal, as it’s rare we take top players from clubs that could be considered our rivals.
Aside from his injury problems, the move has been relative success for all involved, and Sherwood has heaped praise on the man who brokered the deal.
“Michael Edwards, the sporting director there at Liverpool, doesn’t waste much money,” he told BeIN Sports.
“Jurgen Klopp would have told him the characteristics of a player, and he went and stole him from Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“I believe, giving him a run of games, hasn’t materialised yet cause of injuries, Jurgen Klopp will get the best out of that kid. He for sure will be a big, big player for Liverpool and England.”
It’s bold of Sherwood to say we “stole” a player who cost us £35million, but I see what he’s saying – he’s talking about the long-term.
If Ox carries on playing the way he is, and if he improves (which I’d expect him to do after stringing together a good few games together) he’ll be considered a bargain at just over £30million.
The transfer also has the positive note of being a move that strengthened us while weakening a rival – a two for one, if you like.
