Liverpool fans have now been told that Crysencio Summerville agreeing a summer switch to Anfield will be ‘slightly contingent’ on a couple of factors.

Naturally, the next manager at the club will have some role to play in this, as will the potential futures of Mo Salah and Luis Diaz, according to Jacque Talbot of Football Transfers.

The former is a heavily appreciated quantity in Saudi Arabian football, whilst the latter continues to earn links to Spanish football amidst his father’s very public commentary of his personal wishes.

Will Liverpool sell Salah this summer?

There have been murmurs around the possibility of an exit this summer ahead of the Egyptian’s contract expiry next year.

Any such suggestion, of course, must be taken with a pinch of salt given the importance our No.11 places on playing competitive football.

A tally of 36 goal contributions in 35 games (across all competitions) certainly indicates that the forward is still well-suited to the calibre of English top-flight football.

We’d be mightily surprised if he was prepared to take a massive step down, in terms of the comparative quality of the Saudi Pro League, for a larger wage packet.

That’s our opinion on the matter from us here at Empire of the Kop, of course. We could yet be proven wrong on the matter.

Could Summerville replace Salah or Diaz?

That’s a tall order for any footballer in world football, let alone the 22-year-old Leeds footballer!

Summerville has, admittedly, enjoyed a prolific campaign in the Championship this year, amassing 27 goal contributions in 41 games. On a per-minute basis, the Dutchman’s averaging a goal or assist every 119.33 minutes.

He’s featured more heavily on the left flank (17 appearances) than the right (four). His right-footedness would also surely stand in the way of him being a direct Salah replacement.

Statistically, otherwise, the Leeds United star is posting some truly remarkable numbers. Some of the standout figures, as shared on FBref, include ranking in the 97th percentile for shot-creating actions and touches in the opposing penalty box.

Liverpool may have to move fast to seal a move for Crysencio Summerville this summer.

However, there’s also the possibility of the 22-year-old agreeing a contract extension with current club Leeds United.

The aforementioned publication goes on to report that the Whites are planning to enter into fresh talks over his terms ‘if and when the club secures promotion’.

Could Liverpool sign Crysencio Summerville?

It’s far from surprising that the Dutchman has entered the Reds’ radar with the quality of his performances in the Championship.

The former Feyenoord youth talent has registered 27 goal contributions in 40 games across all competitions in 2023/24.

Able to play on either flank in the forward line, the No.10 could solve a couple of selection problems for Liverpool should either one of Luis Diaz or Mo Salah be tempted away in the summer.

We’ve lesser concerns over our Colombian international’s future admittedly, despite his father’s latest admission of a Spanish dream!

Neil Jones has explained why it’d make ‘more sense’ for Liverpool to pursue a winger from the EFL Championship than one currently playing in the Champions League.

Two of the names who’ve cropped up in the Anfield rumour mill during the January transfer window in terms of potential attacking addition are Crysencio Summerville of Leeds (Football Transfers) and Johan Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven (Rudy Galetti).

Speaking to Empire of the Kop Insider, the journalist suggested that, if faced with a straight choice between the two, the Reds may be better off going for the Elland Road youngster rather than his Netherlands-based counterpart.

Jones outlined: “I think Crysencio Summerville makes more sense, at the moment, than Johan Bakayoko in the sense that Liverpool wouldn’t sign a player who has great expectations of going straight into the side.

“Unless they sign Kylian Mbappe, they’re not signing someone who goes right into the Liverpool team and starts every game!

“It would be harder to imagine Bakayoko accepting that role given the club he’s been playing for and the level he’s been playing at. Summerville, coming from the Championship, would have a decent idea that he’s going to have to be patient.”

Summerville has struck 12 goals and set up another six in 24 games for Leeds so far this season, netting five times in his last eight appearances for Daniel Farke’s side (Transfermarkt).

Meanwhile, Bakayoko has 17 goal contributions in 27 outings for PSV during the current campaign, although 13 of those are assists (Transfermarkt).

While naturally those numbers are tempered by the respective levels at which those players are operating, it’ still evident that the former carries a greater goal threat.

Also, as Jones validly pointed out, Summerville may be more accepting of a backup role at Liverpool than Bakayoko, who’s helped PSV to reach the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp will be acutely aware of how deadly the Leeds attacker can be, having scored the Whites’ late winner in their shock triumph at Anfield last season.

The 22-year-old may therefore have the edge on his Belgian counterpart in the Reds’ shopping list, although the abundance of riches in our forward line may see other positions targeted with higher priority during this month’s transfer window, and possibly the summer too.

🚨 EOTK Insider with Neil Jones: Signing Summerville over Bakayoko makes more sense, the young LFC star who could save Reds a fortune, January window latest and much more!

Liverpool are understood to be keeping a close eye on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville.

The pair could potentially leave their respective sides in the summer window, with the likes of Manchester United said to be sniffing around the former.

“Looking ahead to the summer, Liverpool’s interest extends beyond Olise, we have learned they are also eyeing Leeds attacker Crysencio Summerville, though it’s not clear whether the side will purchase both,” Jacque Talbot wrote for Football Transfers“The two players are set to part ways with his current club in the upcoming transfer window amid their spellbinding form this campaign.”

The Whites star has been in sensational form for Daniel Farke’s men this term, amassing a remarkable tally of 18 goal contributions in 24 games – a goal or assist every 106.38 minutes.

Liverpool looking to the future

Both aged 22, it’s very much clear that we’re thinking about the future with such potential signings.

A release clause set at £60m for Olise would also allow us to engage in another relatively hassle-free transfer were we to opt for the Eagles man this summer.

What’s particularly intriguing about Summerville, however, is how well he profiles compared to another reported target in PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, according to FBref.

Unlike his compatriot, though, the Leeds man appears equally as competent as finding the back of the net (94th percentile for xG) as he is assisting goals (95th percentile for xAG).
