According to Fabrizio Romano, the future of one Liverpool youngster could be contingent on the identity of the club’s next manager.

Fabio Carvalho has been unable to establish himself at Anfield since his transfer from Fulham two years ago, although he’s currently enjoying a fruitful loan spell at Hull City, which may yet see him force a way into the reckoning at his parent club.

In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, the Italian claimed that the 21-year-old is attracting growing interest due to his form at the MKM Stadium, although nothing concrete is likely to materialise in the near future.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Romano wrote: “After some fine form on loan at Hull City, there is some interest emerging in Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho. At the moment it’s just interest in terms of calling to ask for the situation, not a negotiation with Liverpool so it’s too early to discuss a potential formula of the deal or similar.

“Liverpool won’t decide now, it will depend on new manager, there are many things to sort before discussing Fabio’s future but his performances are appreciated by many clubs.”

Carvalho’s goal against QPR at the weekend was his third in four games and his eighth in 16 matches since joining Hull on loan, a refreshing contrast to the abortive spell that he endured at RB Leipzig earlier in the season, where most of his 15 appearances were token outings off the bench (Transfermarkt).

His rich vein of form contrasts with the untimely wastefulness of Liverpool’s current forwards, whose finishing has deserted them at the worst possible time of the season.

There’s no guarantee that the 21-year-old would come back to Anfield and shoot the lights out, but he’s doing everything in his power to fight for a long-term future at his parent club.

As Romano stated, a lot could depend on who’s appointed to replace Jurgen Klopp, and whether they see Carvalho as an integral part of their plans on Merseyside.

For now, all the youngster can do is maintain his excellent form for Hull. If he fires them into the play-offs and subsequently promotion to the Premier League, he may be impossible to ignore for the next Liverpool manager.

Fabio Carvalho continues to make a positive impression away on loan in the Championship.

The Liverpool loanee was on target twice in the Tigers’ league clash with Cardiff City, propelling Liam Rosenior’s men to ninth in the table.

The attacking midfielder’s first effort was a lovely volley from inside the box, quickly followed 12 minutes later by a pinpoint strike once again inside the 18-yard box to double the scoreline.

Fabio Carvalho has dropped a hint over his plans at Liverpool once his current loan spell at Hull City concludes.

The 21-year-old endured a difficult temporary stint at RB Leipzig in the first half of the campaign but has excelled at the MKM Stadium, with four goals in 11 games for the Tigers so far (Transfermarkt).

In an interview with Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), the attacker was asked if he intends to return to Anfield, swiftly replying: “Yes, in the pre-season.”

Carvalho also outlined his burning ambition as a player, saying: “I went to Liverpool because I want to be the best player in the world…I think about being the best in the world every day. That’s what I work towards. To be the best, you have to learn from the best and work towards it every day. That’s what I’m always focused on.”

After a difficult 2023 for the youngster, his loan at Hull is reinvigorating him, with Carvalho making the most of the increased game-time being offered to him.

If he can add a few more goals for Liam Rosenior’s side before the end of the season, he stands every chance of being included in the first-team squad at Liverpool under the new manager, with the 21-year-old having not had much of a look-in under Jurgen Klopp.

Whoever takes over in the Anfield dugout can’t help but be impressed by the youngster’s determination to strive towards being ‘the best in the world’.

That might seem a grandiose statement from Carvalho, but it’s the mentality that we like to hear from Reds players. Even if he never quite makes it to Ballon D’Or level, all we can ask is that the attacker makes the most of his considerable talent.

2023 didn’t go as he would’ve liked, but 2024 is shaping up to be a pivotal year in the career of the Portugal under-21 international.

Steve McManaman has named two Liverpool loanees who he believes would’ve enjoyed game-time under Jurgen Klopp recently had they remained at Anfield.

A near-unprecedented injury list has deprived the Reds of numerous first-team stalwarts in recent weeks, but that has led to opportunities for academy youngsters such as Conor Bradley, Lewis Koumas, Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns in the senior side.

The 52-year-old – who currently works within LFC’s academy setup – is delighted to witness those players getting their chance, and he also highlighted a couple of on-loan youngsters who probably would’ve received the call from Klopp had they remained on Merseyside.

McManaman told The Mirror: “You have to talk about the ones who are on loan like Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho. They’re on loan at the minute and doing really well but unfortunately for them, they’ve just missed out on this opportunity because if they were here they’d be playing.”

It’s fair to say that Klopp would almost certainly have called upon both Morton and Carvalho in recent games if they were still at Liverpool rather than out on loan with Hull City.

However, at the time that their respective loans were agreed, it would’ve been impossible to realistically forecast the extent of the injury crisis which has enveloped Anfield in the first two months of 2024, and the two 21-year-olds are benefitting greatly from their time at the MKM Stadium.

The defensive midfielder has started 27 Championship games for the Tigers this season, scoring three goals to aid their promotion push (Transfermarkt), with Liam Rosenior’s side currently occupying the final play-off berth.

Meanwhile, since joining Hull in January, the attacker has struck three times in 10 matches (Transfermarkt), making the most of the opportunities that he wasn’t getting at either Liverpool or RB Leipzig, where he had an abortive loan spell in the first half of the campaign.

You can see why McManaman has said the duo may have missed out on first-team minutes for their parent club given the circumstances of recent weeks, but it still made plenty of sense to grant them temporary moves to somewhere that they’d play regularly.

If Morton and Carvalho continue to impress with the Tigers, they could both be retained at Anfield as senior squad players for next season.

Liverpool’s management must be delighted not just with what they’re seeing of Fabio Carvalho on the pitch during his loan spell at Hull City, but also what they’ll be hearing about him away from the field of play.

The 21-year-old was recalled from RB Leipzig over the winter after he struggled for game-time in Germany, but so far his time at the MKM Stadium could hardly be going better, with three goals in his first nine games for the promotion-chasing Tigers (Transfermarkt).

In an interview with Mark Douglas from The i Paper, a light was also shed on the youngster’s commendable behaviour behind the scenes, with it being noted that ‘humility is a theme’.

Prior to disembarking the team bus before his first away match with Hull, Carvalho tidied the inside of the vehicle, while his manager Liam Rosenior has also picked up on how the attacker frequently keeps the dressing room immaculate after training, tidying up some of his teammates’ flip-flops.

Reflecting on those gestures, the 21-year-old modestly said: “It’s what I’ve been brought up with. In my household, if something’s in the wrong place, you don’t wait for someone else to put it away.

“It’s what the manager relays in his team talks – have your mates’ back. That’s every day, in training if things are sorted the right way, and it goes across to games, working for each other.”

Actions such as tidying up the team bus or the dressing room might seem trivial in the context of how a player performs on a matchday, but such behaviours from Carvalho clearly haven’t gone unnoticed at Hull.

As the youngster referenced, even these seemingly minor details contribute towards instilling a mentality of absolute professionalism, which in turn is likelier to manifest itself on the pitch in the white heat of battle, especially amid a fiercely competitive chase for promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

New Zealand’s world-beating rugby team were renowned for leaving their dressing room spotless after matches, and that commitment to excellence both on and off the field has clearly rubbed off on the 21-year-old.

Carvalho’s magnificent on-field displays and stellar attitude behind the scenes make for a combination which could strike a chord with whoever replaces Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager ahead of next season, when the attacker will be hopeful of getting regular minutes at Anfield.

If he continues in the same vein at Hull right up to the end of his loan spell, he stands every chance of being a valued member of the Reds’ squad in the second half of 2024.

Jurgen Klopp is scraping a team together for our game with Southampton in the FA Cup and it seems two loan players may well be on his radar.

Speaking with the press, the German said (via Hull Daily Mail): “I forgot Hull by the way. It’s so good to see. Fabio and Tyler are doing really well. It’s so nice to see Fabio completely confident again. Both are pretty dominant players, involved in a lot of moments. Development of both is fantastic.

“I love the Championship, I watched Leeds v Leicester last week. Wow. The football intensity in the Championship is absolutely insane. Saw West Brom recently, a real football-playing idea. Ipswich as well. The league is incredibly difficult.”

It’s great to hear the praise for two young players that are impressing at Hull City and in Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho, there’s two options we would probably be giving minutes to in our next match at Anfield.

With the former Fulham man spending the first half of the campaign at RB Leipzig, a return is off the cards but the Wirral-born boyhood Red could be recalled if needed.

It hasn’t taken long at all for one Liverpool loanee to become a firm favourite with supporters of his temporary club.

Fabio Carvalho was Hull City’s match-winning hero on Friday night, scoring a sublime goal to secure a 1-0 victory at Sunderland and lifting them into the Championship play-off positions overnight.

In his player ratings for Hull Live, Barry Cooper awarded the 21-year-old an 8/10 and said that the youngster ‘deserved his standing ovation’ from the travelling Tigers fans.

In stark contrast to his abortive spell at RB Leipzig in the first half of the season, Carvalho has hit the ground running at Hull, opening his account for Liam Rosenior’s side in just his second appearance for the club.

Even allowing for him dropping down to the English second tier from the Bundesliga, that goal and the 21-year-old’s all-round performance should give him the confidence to go on and excel at the MKM Stadium.

Aside from scoring last night, the attacker completed 84% of his passes, won six duels and drew no fewer than five fouls from Sunderland players (Sofascore).

The challenge for Carvalho now is to build upon that and demonstrate that it wasn’t a one-off – Liverpool fans will recall how he started his Anfield career brightly with that last-gasp winner against Newcastle but couldn’t replicate such moments thereafter.

Once he’s being selected regularly at Hull, though – and he looks a shoo-in to start their next game after his match-winning heroics last night – he’ll have the opportunity to show Jurgen Klopp that he may finally be ready to make a prolonged impact at his parent club.

The former Fulham man has bags of potential but Klopp clearly feels like the attacking midfielder needs regular game time this term – something he wouldn’t get at Anfield – to continue his development.

Hull boss Liam Rosenior has spoken about the impressive attitude Carvalho has had since moving to Yorkshire and explained that he immediately knew that his side and the Portugal U21 international were a perfect match.

Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has outlined one aspect about Fabio Carvalho which instantly endeared the Liverpool loanee to him.

The 21-year-old joined the Tigers on a temporary basis last week after being recalled by the Reds from an abortive loan spell at RB Leipzig, and the youngster has made an immediate impression on his new boss.

As per Hull Live, the 39-year-old said of the attacker: “I’ve had a lot of really positive conversations with him. What a great character, first and foremost.

“When I first met him, he told me his story about how he moved to this country from Portugal without speaking a word of English and how he had to find a football team, a local football team. He loves football and I’m absolutely delighted that he’s here.”

It’s very interesting to hear Rosenior speaking so glowingly about Carvalho’s strength of character just a few days after Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder accused the 21-year-old of not having the requisite desire to fight for his place in the Bundesliga outfit’s starting XI.

Try to imagine for a moment just how difficult it must be to move to another country at 11 years old when you don’t know the lingua franca. That was the challenge he faced and duly embraced by taking the initiative to seek out a Sunday League team in London to represent.

It must also have been quite a test of character to relocate to Germany last summer as a young man as he unsuccessfully sought to prove himself at the Red Bull Arena, where he made just three starts (Transfermarkt), but the initial signs are that he’s found an ideal temporary home for himself in Hull.

Carvalho was involved in the build-up for fellow Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton’s wonder goal on his Tigers debut last Friday; and judging by Rosenior’s comments, the manager would have no qualms about giving the 21-year-old the regular game-time that he was denied in Leipzig.

One thing is for sure – the ex-Fulham attacker won’t be fazed too easily.

Rouven Schroder has called into question Fabio Carvalho’s willingness to overcome competition at RB Leipzig during his ill-fated loan spell in Germany.

The Portuguese player enjoyed only a meagre supply of minutes in the German top-flight, with the Reds ending the loan.

“He had a great season with Fulham in the English second division, which is very physical. We said to ourselves: great talent, good age, has already gained his experience,” the RB Leipzig sporting director told reporters at a presser cited by Sport Witness.

“Still, you only get to know a player as an end product when he’s there. Fabio has a great character. But he realized: ‘Okay, there’s a competitor here, I have to do more!’ And we noticed that he didn’t want to face the competition.”

“We asked ourselves the question: Do we feel more comfortable with a man or are we clear and straight and say: Listen, if you don’t want to go with us, then we’ll end the loan. You shouldn’t be afraid of a break-off.”

The 21-year-old has since linked up with fellow Anfield loanee Tyler Morton at Hull City.

Bit contradicting there…

How on earth you can praise a footballer’s ‘great character’ and, in the same breath, accuse them of being unwilling ‘to face the competition’ is beyond us.

Ultimately, it’s clearly best for both parties that Carvalho has been retrieved from his loan spell and placed in a side actually committed to his development.

The former Fulham man played the full 90 minutes of Hull’s 2-1 defeat to Norwich City, with Morton scoring a spectacular late consolation goal.

Here’s to fresh beginnings for the attacking midfielder and hopefully an upward curve he can ride going into pre-season in 2024/25.

A few days after being recalled by Liverpool from his abortive loan spell at RB Leipzig, Fabio Carvalho has been publicly questioned by the Bundesliga club’s sporting director over his apparent lack of desire.

The Reds took the decision to end the 21-year-old’s move to Germany prematurely after he struggled for game-time under Marco Rose – he made just three starts and accrued a mere 360 minutes on the pitch (Transfermarkt) – with the attacker securing another loan to Hull City earlier this week.

As per RB Live, Leipzig chief Rouven Schroder shed some light on why his club were content to cancel the youngster’s temporary deal.

He claimed: “We consciously chose Fabio last summer. He had a great season with Fulham in the English second division, which is very physical. We said to ourselves: great talent, good age, has already gained his experience. Still, you only get to know a player as an end product when he’s there.

“Fabio has a great character, but he realised: ‘OK, there’s a competitor here, I have to do more!’, and we noticed that he didn’t want to face the competition.

“We asked ourselves the question: Do we feel more comfortable with another man or are we clear and straight and say ‘Listen, if you don’t want to go with us, then we’ll end the loan. You shouldn’t be afraid to have a break-off’.”

Professional footballers will take most criticism on the chin, especially when it’s constructive; but for a player to have their attitude and desire publicly called out can sting, particularly for someone as young as Carvalho.

While many of Liverpool’s loanees go to clubs operating outside top-flight level, or in the top tier of a ‘lesser’ nation, the 21-year-old joined a team who are playing in the Champions League, so competition for places was bound to be intense.

Obviously we’re not privy to what happens on the training pitch at Leipzig, so we can’t directly challenge Schroder on his criticisms of the youngster, but from a Reds perspective we’d certainly hope that the player wouldn’t go through the motions if he were disenchanted with the battle for a first-team place under Rose.

Whatever may have happened in Germany, at least Carvalho now has the chance to start afresh at Hull, beginning with a Championship clash against Norwich City tonight.

Hopefully the talented attacker can demonstrate that his time at the Red Bull Arena was an aberration rather than a concerning portent of things to come.
