The end of Jurgen Klopp’s time as Liverpool manager is rapidly approaching, and it seems that he won’t be short of offers once he moves on from Anfield.

According to German football insider Christian Falk, the 56-year-old is regarded as ‘Plan B’ to take charge of his country’s national team if they’re unable to persuade Julian Nagelsmann to extend his contract, which is currently due to expire upon the conclusion of Euro 2024.

Should the Germany boss step aside, he’s believed to be the hot favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich after Xabi Alonso – with whom the Reds were also heavily linked, of course – reaffirmed his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen.

Writing in his latest Fact Files column for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Falk outlined: “FC Bayern is still a bit in shock after Alonso’s cancellation. That changes everything in the search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel.

“Suddenly Julian Nagelsmann, who was the coach in Munich until 2023, is the top favorite. Nagelsmann can decide: either he extends his contract as Germany’s national coach or he goes back to FC Bayern.

“The national team already has a plan B: If Nagelsmann cancels, the association wants to try to get Jürgen Klopp in 2025. Then he would have enough time for his sabbatical year and another year of preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

“Sandro Wagner, currently Nagelsmann’s assistant, could take over as boss for a year. However: Wagner would also have the option of going to Munich with Nagelsmann.”

Klopp reiterated this week that he has no plans to immediately jump back into management once his time at Liverpool concludes next month, having attributed his decision to leave Anfield to ‘running out of energy’.

A few months out of football could see him rediscover a thirst to take to the dugout once more, and the Germany national team is a viable route, especially if Nagelsmann steps down after Euro 2024.

The Reds boss has been a club manager almost non-stop for 23 years, so he might appreciate the less exhausting nature of the international game, where fixtures are far more sporadic and he won’t have to deal with issues such as player contracts and the transfer market.

It seems certain that Klopp will remain true to his intentions to step away from management for a while at the end of this season, but his exceptional feats at Liverpool should see him become a prize candidate for future roles once he’s ready to get back into the sport.

One of Germany’s leading football reporters has given an insight on the view from his homeland regarding Jurgen Klopp’s next move.

The 56-year-old will step down as Liverpool manager at the end of this season after the bulk of nine years in charge, insisting that he needs some time away from football, having worked with little or interruption since 2001.

In his exclusive Fact Files column for CaughtOffside, Christian Falk outlined that many football fans in Germany would love to have the current Reds boss in charge of their national team after Julian Nagelsmann, who’s being touted to replace the under-pressure Edin Terzic at Borussia Dortmund.

The journalist stated: “Edin Terzic also has to fear for his job. Julian Nagelsmann is considered the candidate to succeed him. He is currently the German national coach. And this is where Jürgen Klopp comes into play.

“The farewell to Klopp naturally makes Reds fans sad, but in Germany it increases hope for Klopp to take over the national team. There is still no decision as to whether Julian Nagelsmann and the DFB will continue their cooperation beyond the European Championship.

“Klopp would be the wish of almost all Germans. But since he wants to take a year off, there is now a new consideration in the association. Sandro Wagner, Nagelsmann’s current assistant, could bridge the year as an interim solution until Klopp takes over. There would still be a year until the 2026 World Cup.”

Although the announcement of Klopp’s impending departure in January shocked Liverpool fans – and the world of football – to the core, it’s understandable that he feels a need to recharge after the intensity of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world for almost a decade.

Just as Pep Guardiola took a one-year sabbatical between his jobs at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the 56-year-old might enjoy a few months out of football before feeling a desire to get back into the thick of things.

A national team position wouldn’t require the same level of relentless, year-round commitment as club management, although Germany would still be one of the most pressurised posts in the international game, especially after several disappointing major tournament for the Nationalmannschaft.

Nagelsmann’s future in his current role is likely to depend heavily on how he fares at Euro 2024, which his nation will be hosting, and whether or not the German job becomes vacant after the finals.

If it does, it’s far from unthinkable that Klopp could jump at the chance to manage his country, even if – as Falk has hinted – somebody else takes the reins temporarily before the 56-year-old comes in.

One player who’s been linked with Liverpool in recent days will have had his suitors scrambling to try and woo him following his latest performance on the international stage.

As stated by Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have been linked with Jamal Musiala, and the in-demand Bayern Munich midfielder showed just why the Italian dubbed him a ‘generational talent’ in his most recent appearance for Germany.

The 20-year-old featured for 87 minutes as his country drew 2-2 against Mexico in a friendly overnight, and while he didn’t score or set up either of the Nationalmannschaft‘s goals, his display still caught the eye.

As per Sofascore, the youngster recorded two shots during the game and completed a team-high five dribbles out of the eight that he attempted. He also played one key pass, created one ‘big chance’ and found a teammate with 31 of his 37 passes.

It wasn’t just Musiala’s composure on the ball which’ll have had wowed Liverpool chiefs, either. He made one interception for his team and proved very impressive in his personal battles, winning more duels (seven) than any other Germany player.

His overall performance earned him a 7.2 rating from Sofascore, inferior only to Robin Gosens and goalscorer Antonio Rudiger.

The 20-year-old’s extraordinary talents were vividly summarised by Lothar Matthaus during last year’s World Cup, when the Bayern Munich legend called the youngster ‘the Messi of the future’ and said that he’s ‘doing the things that will make him a top footballer’ (BBC Sport).

Never mind that it wasn’t a competitive match; the German prodigy gave a masterclass for his country against Mexico, and it’s no wonder Liverpool would love to have him at Anfield based on such eye-catching displays from the Golden Boy nominee.

The German Football Association are not prepared to give up on the idea of Jurgen Klopp one day managing the national side.

Christian Falk revealed the DFB’s ‘secret plan’ to lure the £300,000-a-week (according to figures obtained by Planet Football) manager away from Liverpool by making another proposal in 2024 after the European Championship.

“What is interesting about Nagelsmann is that his contract with Germany is only until 2024,” the BILD journalist exclusively informed CaughtOffside.

“He’s very young, only 36, so he won’t get old as the Bundestrainer, he’ll want to go to a club after the Euros. Our association loves this idea as there is another chance to get Jurgen Klopp in as the Bundestrainer. This is the secret plan. They hope that he will do it then.

“We know he’s under contract at Liverpool, but we and the German association think it’s just Jurgen Klopp who can say when his mission at Anfield is over.

“They tried to get him in 2022, they tried to get him now, but he always said ‘no chance, I have to get Liverpool back to the top again’. But, in 2024, there can be another big chance to get Klopp in as the Bundestrainer.”

This will, of course, be dependent on Hansi Flick’s replacement, Julian Nagelsmann, himself calling time on his national career after the Euros.

Jurgen Klopp will fulfil his commitment to Liverpool

Whether this indeed comes to pass remains to be seen, especially if Die Nationalmannschaft should enjoy some relative success in the upcoming international tournament following a change of hands at the reins.

Either way, we simply can’t see Klopp ripping up his contract – currently set to keep him at the club until the summer of 2026 – well ahead of time.

The German head coach has already made clear his loyalties to the club and his commitments.

The only question that remains is whether our exciting new project can keep him intrigued beyond that aforementioned date.

Jurgen Klopp has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Liverpool amid recent rumours linking him with the vacant Germany head coach position.

As soon as Hansi Flick was sacked by the DFB earlier this month, it was reported that the Reds manager was among the German federation’s preferred candidates to fill the void (90min).

However, his agent Marc Kosicke insisted that the 56-year-old had no intention of leaving Anfield, and now the man himself has confirmed as such.

Speaking to RTL in his homeland about the Germany rumours, Klopp said: “We’re building Liverpool 2.0 here, we want to attack again and not just look at how much longer can we go on. I have a loyalty to Liverpool.

“My heart is here in Liverpool. You can’t just cut out the eight years. I signed a contract here and, as far as I can remember, I wasn’t drugged or tied up and had to sign with my mouth. That was a free decision. And that’s why it doesn’t fit.”

Once Christian Falk reported earlier this week that the DFB were close to appointing Julian Nagelsmann as Flick’s successor, that more or less put to bed any lingering fears among Liverpool fans of Klopp taking charge of his country.

Nonetheless, the ultimate reassurance has now come straight from the horse’s mouth, with the 56-year-old openly declaring his ongoing commitment to his current post, which he’s held for almost eight years and counting.

He was at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund for seven years each before that, leaving both roles on his own terms, so he’s very much a coach who remains committed to doing a job for the long-term rather than readily bouncing from one opening to another.

If Klopp had jumped at the Germany gig once Flick was sacked, it would’ve been horribly disruptive to Liverpool, who would’ve been forced to replace one of their greatest ever managers in mid-season.

Mercifully, the Kop can continue to express through song their delight that Jurgen is a red for another while yet!

If some Liverpool fans were still fearful that Jurgen Klopp would take the vacant Germany head coach position, those worries can be put to rest after news which emerged on Tuesday morning.

Christian Falk reported for Bild that the DFB and Julian Nagelsmann have ‘agreed in principle to work together until the 2024 European Championship’, with the 36-year-old set to take over the national team following the dismissal of Hansi Flick earlier this month.

That sacking had led to reports of the Reds manager being touted as one of the leading candidates to step into the void (90min), but Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke had made it clear that the 56-year-old had no intention of walking out of his current post at Anfield.

Sharing the news from Falk on his Twitter/X profile, Fabrizio Romano stated: German DFB now close to completing the formal agreement to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as new head coach of the national team, as @cfbayern reported today.

“Details being discussed on salary as he will take pay cut — Bayern are prepared to terminate Julian’s contact.”

There never seemed any major concern that Klopp would abandon the Liverpool job to take over from Flick as Germany boss, but this morning’s news from Bild will nonetheless leave Reds fans delighted that any lingering doubts now appear to be put to rest.

There is still a possibility that the 56-year-old accepts an offer to manage his country further down the line, particularly with Nagelsmann only set to be hired until the end of Euro 2024 as things stand, but there’s a sense of security and commitment in that his current contract at Anfield runs until 2026.

Klopp was at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund for seven years each and is on the brink of entering his ninth year on Merseyside, so he’s very much a man who commits to a job for the long-term rather than walking out at the drop of a hat.

Liverpool fans may well be hoping that the imminent hiring of the 36-year-old goes so well that the German federation asks him to stay on for the 2026 World Cup, in turn dispelling any fears of our legendary figure in the dugout being headhunted by the DFB before then.

Jurgen Klopp is 100% committed to Liverpool but few can avoid the fact that managing his national team in a home major tournament would surely be something that would prove very hard to resist.

It’s therefore understandable that our boss would be linked to the currently vacant Germany job and that has led to his agent speaking with the national press on the current situation.

Marc Kosicke spoke with Sportschau and said: “Jürgen has a long-term contract with LFC and is not available for the national coaching position”.

It’s exactly the reassurance you want to hear when your manager is linked with a move away and it shows his unfaltering dedication to seeing out his contract and his aims on Merseyside.

The 56-year-old has never given a hint of wanting to leave the Reds but considering this job could be completed alongside his Anfield role, a short-term deal was looking increasingly likely.

This is exactly how to deal with speculation though, get your agent to speak with the media and stop any further stories from growing in momentum.

One pundit is confident that Jurgen Klopp won’t walk out of Liverpool to take the vacant managerial role with the Germany senior men’s team.

The DFB fired Hansi Flick at the weekend after the four-time world champions lost 4-1 to Japan, and the Reds boss was swiftly touted as one of the leading candidates to fill the void (90min).

However, speaking on talkSPORT‘s Back Page Review, both Andy Townsend and Ally McCoist dismissed any fears of the 56-year-old abandoning his current post to take charge of his home nation.

The former stated: “I can’t see him walking out on Liverpool. I don’t see him leaving there any time that soon, but I do see Jurgen Klopp being the international team manager down the line in the future. I don’t see it happening right now.”

McCoist then said: “I still think he’s got unfinished work at Liverpool. He’s in the process of a rebuild. I think he’s very happy there.

“He’s very content there, and I think he would leave himself open to criticism as well, if somebody like [Mo] Salah stays and then he goes. The most important thing is, I think he’s in a happy place.”

Klopp has never had a managerial job lasting for less than seven years, so he’s very much someone who likes the time to build a long-term project (and has been given it) and develops a strong loyalty to the fans of the clubs he represents.

That was in evidence when he returned to his former stomping ground Mainz in recent days, and given the bond he’s forged with Liverpool fans since his arrival in 2015, he’s not likely to put that at risk by breaking his contract at Anfield, which runs until 2026.

We’re with Townsend and McCoist on this one; we don’t see Jurgen parting ways with the Reds any time soon.

You can see the pundits’ comments on Klopp below (from 5:07), via talkSPORT on YouTube:

A major figure at Liverpool could potentially be headhunted for a high-profile vacant role within European football, according to reports.

90min have claimed that the DFB consider Jurgen Klopp as one of the leading candidates to be hired as the next manager of the Germany senior men’s national team, following the dismissal of Hansi Flick at the weekend.

The German federation are so convinced by the 56-year-old that, despite the four-time world champions hosting Euro 2024 next June, they’d even be willing to let him finish out the current season at Anfield and then take the international role in the lead-up to the European Championship in nine months’ time.

They’re also prepared to offer the same allowance to another candidate in Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel.

When news of Flick’s sacking came through on Sunday, Liverpool fans may instantly have feared that rumours of the DFB seeking out Klopp would emerge, and that’s proven to be the case.

It’s not the least bit surprising that the German federation would want the Reds boss to take the national team reins, given what he’s achieved in club football with his current club and his previous roles at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

The 56-year-old has claimed domestic, European and global supremacy at Anfield, with two Bundesliga titles to his name also and four Champions League finals as a manager in total.

Thankfully, Klopp has himself insisted in the past that his loyalty to Liverpool – where he’s contracted until 2026 – would prevent him from taking over his country’s national team unless he were out of work (Sky Germany).

In 22 years of club management, he’s only ever had three posts (each lasting for a minimum of seven years), so he’s very much a ‘project’ coach rather than one who specialises in short-term fixes.

The lengthy gaps between matches, and the greater difficulty to impose his distinctive playing style due to the sporadic nature of international football, mightn’t massively appeal to the 56-year-old, so Reds fans needn’t worry about him walking out of Anfield simply because the Germany gig is available.

A survey by BILD has revealed a large swell of public opinion in Germany towards wanting Jurgen Klopp as their national team coach for Euro 2024.

An editorial by the news outlet earlier this week pilloried incumbent boss Hansi Flick and called for the Liverpool manager to be installed as his successor, a viewpoint with which many football fans in the country seem to agree.

The results of their survey showed that 47% of respondents want the Reds coach to be in charge of the Nationalmannschaft for the European Championship on home soil next year, with just 11% continuing to back the under-fire former Bayern Munich man.

BILD also reported of how Klopp’s advisor Marc Kosicke dismissed any notion of the 56-year-old walking out on his job at Anfield to take the Germany gig, having also turned it down when Joachim Low left the latter position two years ago.

With some of the country’s media and many of its football-supporting public now wanting Flick out of his current post, the clamour for the Liverpool manager is understandable.

Under Klopp, the Reds have won every trophy for which they’ve competed except their one crack at the Europa League in 2016, while thrice recording 90+ points finishes in the Premier League and providing the most sustained competition to Manchester City’s dominance under Pep Guardiola.

It’s not just that on-pitch success which have elevated the 56-year-old’s reputation, either. As highlighted by The Athletic, he retains an affection within his homeland which has eluded other high-profile coaches such as Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

Thankfully for Liverpool fans, Jurgen’s managerial history shows that he honours any contract he signs, having left his previous posts at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund on his own terms, so he’s most unlikely to abandon his job at Anfield even if Flick is given the sack before Euro 2024.

He’s currently contracted to the Reds for another three years (LFC TV), so unless things go majorly awry before then, the likelihood is that we’ll continue to have him until 2026, irrespective of what the German media or public may wish for.

A German columnist has called for Jurgen Klopp to be installed as head coach of the country’s football team, a plea which isn’t likely to go down well with Liverpool fans.

The Nationalmannschaft have endured some tough times of late, eliminated at the group stage in the last two World Cups and emerging from the June international break with two losses and a draw.

That has seen some of the nation’s media heap pressure on incumbent boss Hansi Flick, with one high-profile journalist urging the DFB to make a change in the dugout 12 months out from their hosting of Euro 2024.

Matthias Brügelmann eviscerated the former Bayern manager in a column for BILD and called for an SOS plea to be made to Klopp, who he described as ‘the premium solution‘ and implored the German federation to ‘fight for him with all its might‘, believing that appointing the 56-year-old could inject a sense of ‘euphoria‘ in the country.

It’s no great surprise that Flick is coming in for heavy criticism in Germany, who’ve won only four of their last 16 matches on his watch, one of which was an ultimately fruitless defeat of Costa Rica on the night that they crashed out of the World Cup last November (Transfermarkt).

It’s also quite inevitable that Klopp would be cited as an ideal candidate to take over, given his record as a manager.

Aside from winning seven trophies at Liverpool (including the Premier League and Champions League) and overseeing the Reds consistently challenging Manchester City over the past few years, he also won two Bundesliga titles at Borussia Dortmund (Transfermarkt).

That was in addition to guiding them to just their second-ever Champions League final 10 years ago, when they were agonisingly beaten by Bayern Munich at Wembley.

It’s not just the on-field performance which has seen Reds fans fall in love with Klopp, either. From the moment he first came through the door in 2015, he formed a bond with the fan base with his people skills and inspirational messages.

Even a fifth-placed finish last season saw the vast majority of supporters reaffirm their faith in the manager, to whom a huge debt of gratitude is owed for everything he’s achieved at Anfield.

In his BILD column, Brügelmann named two other coaches in Oliver Glasner and Rudi Voller as alternative successors to Flick, so the DFB can kindly go for one of those instead if they decide to change things up.

Hands off Jurgen, lads – he’s ours!

Luis Diaz is currently playing out the end of his season, one which has been full of injury pain for the attacker, and has done so in style by scoring a sublime header against Germany.

Juan Cuadrado had the ball on the right wing and attacked the defence with a wicked cross in towards our No.23, who had a lot to do with the pass that was sent his way.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen stood no chance as the ball sailed into the top right-hand corner of his net and the celebrations that followed showed the joy that it brought for the 26-year-old.

Let’s hope that this form can continue into the new season and that the former Porto man can reignite his Anfield career ahead of a crucial campaign.

Liverpool’s summer plans are always considered by the club as an opportunity to visit our fans in the far corners in the world and participate in some lucrative tournaments but Jurgen Klopp often prefers to be closer to home.

However, as reported by German outlet BILD (translated), this summer may be a little different: ‘Jürgen Klopp’s (55) club was again interested in holding a camp in the luxury hotel “Überfahrt” and on the training ground of FC Rottach.

‘However, the community is said to be not so good about the Reds after the visit in summer 2017 – cleanliness in the cabins and the condition of the lawn were then complained about’.

The Reds last visited in 2017 and this resulted in a €3,000 fine and a hearing before the Munich district court because of the way in which the facilities were left by the players and staff, something which certainly shouldn’t be happening.

Even if these punishments are viewed as harsh from the facility owners, there’s no excuse for the club to be leaving any venue in such a condition and that goes for any member of the staff from the very top down.

We have seen in past years that there are of course other venues that could be used but if this is what our manager had his heart set on, then this could be a big speed bump for pre-season plans with little time to find an adequate replacement.

It’s certainly bad press and bad news at a time when we are trying to spread some enthusiasm ahead of a big summer of on and off-field activity for everyone involved.

Let’s hope new plans can be made and a new venue found, very quickly – as we look for a new home following our matches with Bayern Munich and Leicester City in Singapore.

Jurgen Klopp is adored at Liverpool but given his obvious ties to Germany, many from his home nation have been calling for him to become the new manager of their national team.

Following the Germans being knocked out in the group stages in Qatar, Hansi Flick is facing calls to lose his job and amongst the favourites to replace him is our boss.

However, speaking with Sky Germany, the 55-year-old’s agent Marc Kosicke said: ‘This is a media topic, Jurgen has a contract at Liverpool until 2026 and he intends to fulfill it’.

There won’t have been many Liverpool supporters who would have expected the gaffer to leave the club but this level of reassurance is always good to hear.
