The possibility of a Bayer Leverkusen v Liverpool final in the Europa League increased significantly after the recent draw ensured that the teams would be kept apart until then, should they continue to progress in the competition.

One player from Xabi Alonso’s squad already seems to be relishing the prospect of coming up against the Reds in Dublin eight weeks from today.

During a training session with the Netherlands squad earlier this week, Jeremie Frimpong shaped up to take a penalty, grasping the ball and taunting Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo by confidently stating: “Europa League final, last penalty against Liverpool!”

As the Leverkusen wing-back set himself up for the spot kick, the ball that he’d placed was dislodged by another thrown by a teammate, prompting amusement among those watching on.

There are still two rounds to negotiate before any team left in the Europa League can truly look ahead to the final, but Frimpong certainly appears to be yearning for a crack at Liverpool in the Irish capital on 22 May!

Fabrizio Romano has said that one reported Liverpool transfer target has a ‘super-interesting’ release clause which’ll activate in the summer.

The Reds are among numerous clubs monitoring Jeremie Frimpong, with Bayer Leverkusen aware of growing interest in the right-back (Football Insider).

Speaking on Kick, the Italian transfer reporter ruled out the possibility of the 23-year-old going anywhere this month, but said that the situation may be one to ‘keep an eye on’ once the season ends.

Romano said: “Frimpong is staying at Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen will not sell any player in January. All the big players will stay at the club, and Frimpong in the summer will have a release clause.

“The clause is going to be €40m [£34.4m]; super-interesting clause for one of the best full-backs in the world, so keep an eye on him in the summer transfer window, not in January.”

Frimpong has been one of the main reasons for Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title challenge, with 12 goal contributions in the division and 17 in all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s side this season (Transfermarkt).

Those are phenomenal figures for a wing-back to rack up, highlighting him as a player who – similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold – simply loves to get forward and make a telling contribution in the opposition half.

In the meantime, Liverpool fans will be eager to see how Conor Bradley fares in the absence of the injured England international. If the 20-year-old echoes the sort of impact that Jarell Quansah has made this term, the Reds might be keen not to stunt his growth by spending a substantial figure on a new signing.

In any event, Frimpong looks set to stay put at Leverkusen for at least the remainder of this campaign. However, if he continues to be such a potent right-sided threat and his team go on to win the Bundesliga, you can be sure that his name will be among the most dominant in the summer transfer window.

As Romano says, keep an eye to the 23-year-old over the coming months…

Liverpool could lose out on reported target Jeremie Frimpong if West Ham have their way.

Football Insider now reports that the Hammers are eager to complete a deal to land the Bayer Leverkusen fullback this January.

The Dutch youth international has been in impeccable form this term, amassing 17 goal contributions in 23 games (at a rate of a goal or assist every 102.23 minutes).

A trajectory set for the forward line?

One has to wonder where Frimpong will end up positionally in a few years at the rate he’s going.

In possession, the 23-year-old – described as ‘incredibly fast’ by sporting director Simon Rolfes (via Bundesliga.com) – acts more like a winger, becoming active in the final third, as is demonstrated by his ludicrous number of goal contributions.

With that in mind, it’s surely a possibility that the “right-back” will be converted into a more advanced position at some point in what could be a highly illustrious career.

In that case, we wouldn’t need to worry about what we might do with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley (depending of course on where we see our No.66 playing his best football for the remainder of his career).

Less than 24 hours after news emerged of a knee injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool have been linked with a prospective right-back addition.

According to Football Insider, the Reds are among numerous clubs ‘monitoring the situation of’ Jeremie Frimpong, with Bayer Leverkusen ‘aware of’ the growing interest in their player.

The 23-year-old could become available later this year due to a release clause thought to be worth £35m, with his current deal at the Bundesliga leaders running to 2028.

It’s worth noting that Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong hasn’t emerged out of the blue in the wake of Trent’s injury, but is instead viewed through the long-term prism of moving the latter into a midfield position for good, rather than the hybrid role he’s been playing over the last few months.

Indeed, the Reds were also linked with the Dutchman in November, when Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that the 23-year-old had been ‘very keen’ on an exit from Leverkusen this year.

He’s played chiefly as a wing-back rather than a more conservative full-back in Xabi Alonso’s side this season, and he’s doing so to devastating effect, with a hugely impressive tally of seven goals and 10 assists in the first half of the campaign (Transfermarkt).

Liverpool may be patient for this month and wait to see how Conor Bradley fares in Jurgen Klopp’s side before deciding with whether or not to pursue a new right-back like Frimpong.

The Northern Ireland defender will hope to emulate the likes of Trent and Jarell Quansah in making the most of being thrust into the first team by becoming a regular at Anfield.

His fortunes during the vice-captain’s time out injured could go a long way to determining whether or not the Reds push for a new signing in that position over the coming weeks and months.

One Liverpool-linked player has been strongly tipped to leave his current club in 2024.

Spanish outlet Depor claimed earlier this month that the Reds are among several prospective suitors for Jeremie Frimpong, who’s having a magnificent season so far with Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg said that Xabi Alonso’s side expect the 22-year-old to move on next year, with the right-back boasting a €40m (£35m) release clause in his contract and eager to try his luck elsewhere.

The journalist posted: Jeremie Frimpong: Leverkusen expect him to leave the club in 2024. The 22 y/o is also very keen on a transfer. He has a release clause of €40m in the summer!

“Incredible season again. Best Bundesliga right winger/right-back at the moment: 6 goals and 7 assists in 17 matches”.

Plettenberg has already highlighted Frimpong’s remarkable return of goal contributions in the current campaign, with the Dutchman excelling in a right wing-back role at Leverkusen (Transfermarkt).

His profile on the official Bundesliga website emphasises how he ‘has the pace to eat up ground in the final third and boasts a keen eye for a decisive pass’, with the 22-year-old also capable of using his rapid speed to race back and make ‘rocket-propelled recovery challenges’.

If Liverpool were to utilise their connections with Alonso to try and lure the former Celtic right-back to Anfield, that could be done with a view to transforming Trent Alexander-Arnold into a permanent midfield option, rather than the hybrid role that he’s played for the last few months.

It’s something that Jamie Carragher has implored Jurgen Klopp to consider, believing that it’d get the best out of the 25-year-old Scouser and benefit the team as a whole.

A fee of £35m doesn’t seem like much at all to pay for a 22-year-old who’s producing huge numbers at a high level, and whose club appear resigned to losing him in 2024. The Reds might just fancy a swoop for Frimpong in the coming months, particular if he’s eager to move on from the BayArena.

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen ace and Netherlands international Jeremie Frimpong.

The 22-year-old, who progressed through the ranks at Manchester City before joining Celtic as a teenager, has been a key part of the Bayer Leverkusen side who are flying under ex-Red Xabi Alonso in both the Bundesliga and in the Europa League.

A fresh report from Depor (via The Boot Room) now claims that the Reds are joined by Real Madrid and Chelsea in showing interest in the versatile full-back while Arsenal are also being linked.

Frimpong operates as a right-sided wing back under the Spanish tactician and has so far registered five goals and seven assists in 16 appearances (across all competitions).

Leverkusen are currently sat top of the Bundesliga, two points clear of current champions Bayern Munich, and have already secured their passage through to the knockout stages of the Europa League having won all four of their group games so far.

Alonso is doing a superb job and it’s therefore no surprise to see some of his players being linked with other clubs.

Although the versatile defender is thriving in Germany, you’d suspect that the opportunity to ply his trade in the Premier League and join up with his compatriots Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo will appeal to him.

If Frimpong was to make the switch to Anfield, it would allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to step into midfield on a permanent basis.
