Sevilla manager Unai Emery says he and Jurgen Klopp shared a joke after meeting each other before tonight’s Europa League Final between their respective teams.
Liverpool take on the two-time reigning champions in Basel this evening, knowing a win will secure them a first piece of silverware under Klopp and a passage into next season’s Champions League.
Emery, when asked about Klopp’s crazy touchline antics, told reporters from the Echo he shadow boxed our manager when Klopp tried to wind him up about a potential altercation!
“I was talking to the coach of Liverpool (earlier). He asked if we are going to fight and we pretended to shadow box!”
(Emery should be grateful it was only shadow boxing… Klopp’s 6 ft. 4′ and is quite a frightening chap when he’s angry!)
The Spaniard did go on to wax lyrical about our club and our team though, describing our style as ‘pure football’.
“Liverpool are among the 10 best teams in the world. They are pure football. They are real football,” he continued.
“They have a great history.
“The team has changed now a little bit with the new coach. It’s a happy team, I think.”
Sevilla also play all-action football, unlike our semi-final opponents Villarreal. They’ll look to provide Kevin Gameiro service quickly, and try to win the ball back when we have it.
It’s going to make for a brilliant occasion, and a Liverpool win will send vibrations around Europe.
