Naby Keita’s Liverpool career will be largely remembered for the amount of games the midfielder was unable to play but his legacy in his new club already looks to be tarnished.

As reported on Werder Bremen’s club website: ‘Werder Bremen have suspended Naby Keïta until the end of the season. The club have also handed the midfielder a substantial fine. The 29-year-old will no longer train with the team or be part of the first-team dressing room.

“As a club, we won’t tolerate Naby’s behaviour. He let his team down in a time of difficulty surrounding our recent run of form and squad availability and put his own interests above those of the team. We can’t allow that. At this stage of the season, we need full focus on the remaining games and a team who stick together. That’s why we’ve been left with no alternative.”

It’s certainly not something we saw at Anfield from our former No.8, even if some questioned the availability of the player at times.

The 29-year-old clearly thinks he shouldn’t be on the bench and seeing as his team fell to a 5-0 loss in the same match, it perhaps shows that the Premier League winner is good enough to start in the Bundesliga.

With the team sat in 12th place, the Guinea international hasn’t had the dream return to Germany with just five appearances in the league so far this season.

13 games have been missed with fitness concerns and the captain of his nation has averaged just 12 league games a season in the past five years.

It doesn’t look like a relationship that will continue with the club who perform in the Weser Stadium and there may be another search for a new club this summer.

It’s such a shame that a man with obvious talent can’t stay fit enough to perform regularly but actions like this certainly won’t help his career going forward.

If Naby Keita hoped that leaving Liverpool would reinvigorate his career, things at Werder Bremen haven’t exactly gone to plan since that transfer.

He’s made a paltry five appearances all season, with a continuation of the injury woes which afflicted his time at Anfield (Transfermarkt), and now he could be facing the wrath of his current club’s bosses.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

As per The Mirror, the 29-year-old reacted to discovering that he wouldn’t start against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday – a fixture that his team lost 5-0, with the victors duly clinching the Bundesliga title – by refusing to board the team bus and instead storming off home.

Werder’s sporting director Clemens Fritz has said that he will speak to Keita and his agent ‘about the consequences’ of his action and ‘how to proceed’.

Keita showed glimpses of considerable talent during his five years at Liverpool, but unfortunately those were all too sporadic amid a dreadful injury record.

It came as a surprise to no-one that his contract was allowed to expire last year, and his miserable time in Germany suggests that the Anfield hierarchy were right to part ways with him.

Jurgen Klopp absolutely wouldn’t stand for the act of petulance that the Guinea midfielder committed over the weekend, and we’d like to think that the next Reds manager won’t tolerate it either.

Having been Liverpool’s club-record signing when he arrived for £52.75m in 2018, it was a real shame that Keita’s potential was never fulfilled on Merseyside.

He won’t have done himself any favours with his recent actions, either, but we hope for his sake that he’ll learn from it and that a once-promising career won’t peter out to nothingness for a player who’s yet to hit his 30s.

Paddy ‘the Baddy’ Pimblett recalled the horror that was Naby Keita’s outside-of-the-boot shot in the 2022 Champions League final.

The Guinean international had fans groaning en masse around the globe with his ill-advised effort on goal just on the edge of the Real Madrid box.

We can’t just blame our ex-No.8 for a failure to capitalise against a Real Madrid side that, other than a superhuman Thibaut Courtois, simply wasn’t up to scratch in Paris.

But there’s no question that there was a better decision to be made on the day and we’re all going to be left wondering at what might have been.

Naby Keita has revealed how he initially reacted to hearing the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old was brought to Anfield by the outgoing Reds manager in 2018 and spent five years at the club before joining Werder Bremen last summer.

The news broke while the midfielder was away at the Africa Cup of Nations, in which he’s helped Guinea to reach the quarter-finals, and he admitted that the upcoming departure of his former boss hit him hard.

Keita told reporters (via RMC Sport): “When I heard the news, I had tears in my eyes. I was like his son in Liverpool and I consider him my dad.”

Although the Guinean’s time with Liverpool might’ve been largely frustrating and characterised by seemingly incessant injury problems, it’s clear that – like so many of his former teammates – he forged a very tight bond with Klopp.

It’s a measure of the 56-year-old’s aura that, even when some players have long since left Anfield, they still feel emotional at hearing that the German is exiting at the end of this season.

Keita can always say that he played a part for LFC during one of the most successful periods in their history, helping them to win the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.

For him, all that success was made possible by Klopp signing him from RB Leipzig six years ago and being such an inspirational manager that his exit has prompted such an emotional reaction from the midfielder.

One former Liverpool player is reportedly putting a few noses out of joint at his current club.

According to German outlet DeichStube, senior figures at Werder Bremen are getting tired of Naby Keita’s behaviour, with the 28-year-old reportedly turning up late for team meetings and ducking out of several sponsorship events.

The Guinea midfielder’s cause hasn’t been helped by a continuation of the injury problems which dogged his career at Anfield, with the Reds’ former number 8 playing just three times since his move to the Weserstadion last summer (Transfermarkt).

Having cost Liverpool a then-club record £52.75m when he joined in 2018 (The Athletic), big things would naturally have been expected of Keita at Anfield.

The Guinean did have his moments with the Reds and showed enough quality to be dubbed ‘world-class’ by Virgil van Dijk (LFC official website), but ultimately his time with us was a largely frustrating one as a spate of injuries took their toll.

It must be said, though, that there weren’t any notable off-field issues with the 28-year-old when he was on Merseyside, so it seems a little surprising that he now appears to be infuriating Werder chiefs with some of his behaviour.

Nonetheless, these reports will reinforce the feeling among the Liverpool hierarchy that last summer was the right time to part ways with Keita, with the midfielders who came in during the off-season largely settling in quite well so far at Anfield.

For the Guinea international’s sake, we hope he can revive his career in Bremen and that he’ll learn from any indiscretions away from the pitch.

Liverpool didn’t renew the contracts of several players over the summer, and one of those decisions in particular may well be leaving Anfield chiefs feeling that they made the right call.

Among those who exited as free agents at the end of last season was Naby Keita, who spent five years at the club after joining from RB Leipzig.

The 28-year-old is now back in Germany with Werder Bremen, but his fortunes haven’t exactly been supercharged by the change of scenery.

As per SportBILD [via Sport Witness], the Guinea midfielder is already ‘becoming a problem’ for Die Werderaner due to his injury-prone nature, with growing frustration among the hierarchy at the Weserstadion.

Having only just returned from an abductor tear, Keita is now sidelined again with a thigh muscle problem which’ll rule him out for a few weeks.

We’re sorry to see that the 28-year-old, who showed flashes of his talents at Liverpool but had an appalling injury record, is continuing to be blighted by fitness problems after leaving Anfield.

Even though Werder picked him up on a free transfer, he’s their highest earner on just over £41k per week (Capology) but has played a mere 80 minutes since the start of the season for Ole Werner’s side (Transfermarkt).

Keita had his moments on Merseyside, netting in the Club World Cup en route to triumph in the tournament and famously scoring inside 15 seconds against Huddersfield, while he was once labelled ‘world-class’ by none other than Virgil van Dijk (liverpoolfc.com).

However, having cost us £52.75m upon joining in 2018 (Sky Sports), for him to incur no fewer than 21 separate injury absences (Transfermarkt) and not start more than 16 games in any of his five Premier League seasons (WhoScored) shows that he didn’t prove to be value for money.

It was obviously hugely frustrating for him but it was for Liverpool fans, too, and with Werder now realising how we felt for large periods of the Guinean’s time at Anfield, the Reds’ hierarchy must be very glad they didn’t extend his contract beyond the summer.

Naby Keita’s injury struggles throughout his mixed Liverpool career sadly followed him to his return to Germany, leaving him waiting several weeks for his Werder Bremen debut.

The Guinean international made a very brief cameo in the 2-1 win over Koln, an appearance that delighted former teammate Virgil van Dijk who wrote in  his Instagram comments: ‘Naby lad!’

It’s difficult to judge our former No.8’s time at Anfield, with his world-class performances in the famous red shirt far too spread out among injury-enforced absences from the pitch.

Hopefully he can rediscover the consistent availability and quality of performances that first earmarked him as a Liverpool target.

The contrast could not be more stark between Dominik Szoboszlai’s dynamic start to life in Liverpool and his predecessor’s, Naby Keita, injury-plagued return to the Bundesliga.

The former RB Leipzig man arrived with much in the way of fanfare following a pre-agreed switch to Anfield, with many hopeful the Guinean could fill Steven Gerrard’s giant-sized boots on Merseyside, though now finds himself wrapped ‘in cotton wool’ at Werder Bremen amid fresh injury struggles, according to Bild (as relayed by the Liverpool Echo).

Though not quite a total failure – and there were certainly more than just flashes of brilliance under Jurgen Klopp – the move never quite met the lofty expectations of a fanbase desperate for a successor to our legendary former skipper.

Whilst it would be far too soon to be labelling Szoboszlai ‘Steven Gerrard 2.0’ after a strong start to life in the famous red shirt, there’s no reason why supporters can’t revel in the excitement around this new signing.

A signing that will, with all due respect to our former No.8, excel by comparison to Keita if he can simply stay fit whilst maintaining his current performance levels.

You could forgive fans for sweating a little around the collar when the club announced another big-money signing for a Leipzig midfielder, especially given how injury-prone our signings from Die Roten Bullen have been (sorry, Ibou).

Szoboszlai, however, with only one game missed since the 2021/22 season – skipping a couple of serious injuries suffered in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 campaigns – is proving to be a reliable operator and has thus far justified Liverpool’s decision to invest big in another Red Bull midfielder at the expense of allowing our former investment’s contract to run its course.

The No.8 shirt holds a special place in the hearts of Liverpool fans, representing a lineage of talented midfielders who have graced the hallowed Anfield turf.

With the recent signing of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig taking on the iconic number, it seems an apt time for reflecting on the history of players who have donned the shirt number for the Reds.

The most prominent name that immediately comes to mind is none other than Steven Gerrard, widely regarded as one of our greatest ever players, our former captain epitomised the qualities of a true Anfield great.

“When I was a child, to be honest I didn’t watch that much football but of course when it was Champions League or a big game, I was watching Liverpool, the big teams and also the big players – and he was one of the biggest,” the former RB Leipzig star reflected on taking the No.8 shirt at Anfield (via the Daily Mail).

His leadership, technical ability, and knack for scoring crucial goals made him a legend among the Anfield faithful.

It’s now a big responsibility for our new Hungarian to shoulder the same number worn by the Liverpool icon, but fans are hopeful that he can carve his own path and achieve greatness in the famous red jersey.

Interestingly, both the 22-year-old and Naby Keita, the player who previously wore the No.8 shirt, arrived on Merseyside from RB Leipzig.

The Guinean, known for his energy, dynamism, and box-to-box style, had a promising start to his Liverpool career but injuries and inconsistency hampered his progress.

With the No.8 now passed on to Szoboszlai, we are all hopeful that the Hungarian captain can bring a new dimension to the midfield and make a lasting impact.

It’s worth noting that before Keita and Gerrard, the No.8 shirt was worn by a string of talented players, each leaving their mark in their own way.

The likes of Emile Heskey and Stan Collymore have worn the shirt with pride during their spells at the club.

While their Liverpool careers may have had different degrees of success, each contributed to the club’s history and added their own chapter to the story of the No.8 shirt.

As Szoboszlai steps into the jersey, our fans are filled with optimism, excitement and hope that he can emulate the success and impact of legends like Gerrard.

It’s important to note that Gerrard himself initially wore the No.17 shirt before eventually donning the No.8.

This parallel between Gerrard’s previous number and Szoboszlai’s former Leipzig jersey adds an intriguing element to the Hungarian’s journey at Liverpool.

With the No.8 shirt now in the hands of Dominik Szoboszlai, we all eagerly anticipate his contributions on the field.

We hope he can make his own mark and create unforgettable moments for the club and perhaps, by being handed the famous jersey, Szoboszlai has been given the strongest hand in a game of poker and should be set to succeed at Anfield.

While he follows in the footsteps of great players who have worn the number before him, Szoboszlai has the opportunity to create his own legacy and etch his name among the pantheon of Liverpool’s No.8s.

The stage is set for him to make his mark, and fans will be eagerly cheering him on as he begins his journey at Anfield.

Naby Keita has spoken out about how much Jurgen Klopp supported him during his injury troubles during his time with Liverpool.

The Guinea midfielder left Anfield last month after five years at the club, signing for Werder Bremen earlier this month.

The 28-year-old’s time on Merseyside was unfortunately littered with a series of injury problems, enduring no fewer than 21 separate spells on the sidelines (Transfermarkt), but he’s revealed how supportive the manager had been throughout those difficult moments.

Speaking to SportBILD (via Sport Witness), Keita said of Klopp: “He is a very good coach and a really good person. Whenever I was injured, he took care of me. He kept telling me, ‘You are strong, never give up!’ That helped me.

“Even though things didn’t go so well for me in Liverpool because of my injuries, I’m very grateful to him.”

Having cost the Reds £52.75m upon joining them in 2018 (Sky Sports), a club-record fee at the time (BBC Sport), Keita naturally came to Anfield with plenty of expectation heaped upon him.

His continued injury troubles prevented him from ever truly becoming part of the furniture on Merseyside, although he still came up with some pivotal goals for Liverpool and produced a few standout performances among his 129 games in red (Transfermarkt).

A goalscoring burst in April 2019 showed how good he could be when playing consistently and performing to his best, while his strike against Monterrey in the Club World Cup semi-final later that year went a long way towards Klopp’s team ultimately winning the trophy for the first time.

As for the manager, Keita’s comments highlight just how classy an individual the German is, offering words of support to players at low points when such encouragement is very much needed, when other coaches mightn’t have shown the same compassion in a similar scenario.

We’re very lucky to have someone like Jurgen in charge who’s not just an outstanding coach but, as the Guinean’s anecdote shows, a wonderful person as well. It’s no wonder players would run through a brick wall for a boss like him.

Naby Keita insists he’s aware that some supporters may be surprised that he’s swapped Liverpool for Werder Bremen this summer but claims he’s looking forward to getting down to work with Bundesliga outfit.

The Guinea international left the Reds this summer upon the expiry of his contract having joined the club from RB Leipzig in 2018.

The 28-year-old is a player that will forever divide opinion among Liverpool fans having seen his Anfield career hampered by injuries.

“I understand that many people are wondering why I am making the move from Liverpool FC to Werder Bremen,” our former No. 8 told Bremen’s official website (as quoted by Rousing The Kop). “When I spoke to the coach and the sporting director, they told me about the club’s project. After that, I thought about it a lot, with my family too.

“In the end, I had to make a decision and I chose Werder Bremen. I am very happy with this decision and will give everything to the team in the coming season.”

After joining from Leipzig in a deal worth £48m so much was expected from Keita so it’s a shame that he didn’t live upto many people’s expectations.

He leaves the club having won every major trophy possible, however, and we wish him all the best upon his return to Germany.

Ex-Liverpool ace Naby Keita has reportedly already found his next club, agreeing a deal with Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

This comes courtesy of a tweet from SportBILD’s Christian Falk following the Guinean international’s departure from Anfield on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old had enjoyed a highly successful stint in German football prior to his switch to Merseyside, making his name with RB Leipzig.

Though things didn’t work out quite as smoothly with Liverpool – owing to a host of injuries and difficulty learning English – we were treated to plenty in the way of glimpses of the brilliance Keita is more than capable of.

Our former No.8 will continue to divide fans over his stay at L4, much in a not-too-dissimilar vein to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, though perhaps a return to Germany could be the ticket to reinvigorating his career.

We at Empire of the Kop certainly wish the man affectionately dubbed ‘Naby lad’ within the Liverpool squad nothing but the best of luck for his remaining future in the game.

Naby Keita was one of four players whose contract ran down to a close at Liverpool this season and the midfielder bid his final farewell to the club, his teammates and supporters – after our final home game of the season.

The Guinean took to social media to thank the fans for the send-off he received but some may be more interested in the response he received from Andy Robertson, in relation to his exit.

The captain of Scotland replied to our No.8’s post on Instagram by saying: ‘Gonna miss slapping your head Naby!’, which will certainly raise a smile from many fans.

With pictures circulating that appeared to suggest that the former RB Leipzig man was missing from the squad’s holiday to Barcelona, it had appeared that the he lacked a close relationship with his teammates.

However, this comment from the left-back may ease some of these worries, as well as the fact that Jordan Henderson, Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil van Dijk, Adrian, Xherdan Shaqiri and John Achteberg also left a message on the post.

It certainly didn’t work out as we all thought it would in 2018 but if you leave Merseyside after a five-year career and win every trophy on offer, it certainly could have gone a lot worse!

Naby Keita’s exit from Liverpool has been met with quite widespread indifference amongst the supporters, which is quite a sad way to end a five-year career in which you’ve won every trophy for the club.

As a way to celebrate his Anfield career, the club shared a video of the Guineans highlights in a red shirt but this wasn’t received well by all online fans and one man had a few opinions to share.

Taking to his Twitter account, the writer, director and producer Dave Kirby said: ‘Show his embarrassing hoof 40 yards wide v Madrid in Paris. £53 million for this grossly overpriced, grossly overrated, spineless myth. Good riddance’.

The Scouser certainly didn’t mince his words when assessing the career of our No.8 and, even if you think the rest of the Tweet is a little harsh, we can all agree that his shot in the Champions League final wasn’t the best effort of his career.

Had the 28-year-old cost £5.3 million instead of the fee we ended up paying RB Leipzig for his services, then perhaps his time on Merseyside may have been viewed more favourably.

Instead, he will probably always be remembered as the one major transfer flop of the Jurgen Klopp era and that will always lead to comments like we’ve seen here from the lifelong Red.

Several weeks ago, the Liverpool squad were handed a short break in Barcelona and although there weren’t many images released by the players at the time – one has now surfaced and shows something that’s a little bit strange.

Taking to his Instagram account, Adrian uploaded some pictures as a review of his 2022/23 campaign and one of them was taken during their trip to Spain in early May.

It featured the full squad stood together and Bobby Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner being handed gifts from the players but not only was Naby Keita not presented with anything – he wasn’t in the picture at all.

So, for whatever reason, it seems that our No.8 was not part of the picture and possibly even the holiday all together which is strange when you see the prior named trio and Athur Melo all stood front and centre.

Whether this shows a distancing from the Guinean to the rest of the squad, or he was using this time to arrange his next club – it’s been a sad end to his five-year Anfield career as he was hooked at half-time away to Crystal Palace, spent the Real Madrid game on the bench and never featured in another squad again.
