Last week, Liverpool FC announced that ticket prices for next season would be increased by 2%, news which led to outcry from numerous Reds supporters.

Despite a subsequent meeting with the club’s Supporters Board, the decision was made not to reverse that planned price rise.

Although the rate of increase is lesser than other Premier League clubs who’ve taken similar action – Tottenham announced a 6% raise to season ticket prices for the 2024/25 campaign – the move by LFC has nonetheless left a sour taste at a rather inopportune time.

Liverpool fan group Spion Kop 1906 took a stand against the club’s plans to raise ticket prices by refusing to display flags on the Kop for last week’s Europa League quarter-final clash at home to Atalanta.

Although the atmosphere at Anfield was strangely subdued that night, the subsequent 0-3 defeat was still a shock to the system, and attempts by some social media users to pin that result on the supporters were frankly ridiculous.

As Gareth Roberts – who represents The Spirit of Shankly and the Supporters’ Board – explained to BBC Radio Merseyside, the ticket price decision is reflective of a ‘worrying direction of travel’ across English football where the considerations of match-going fans are being neglected.

He rightly pointed out that Liverpool will benefit from greater income next season due to Anfield’s expanded capacity and the near-certain return to the Champions League, so the 2% increase in ticket prices shouldn’t have been necessary.

The mood around the club was jovial as April began, with Jurgen Klopp’s side still in the hunt for two trophies to add to the Carabao Cup which was secured in February, but the Reds’ season has threatened to unravel over the past fortnight.

With the potential for something special to happen in the manager’s final few weeks on Merseyside, the board chose a terrible time to announce the ticket price increase, and the damage not just to the team’s fortunes but also the club’s reputation could be far more costly than any benefits from the 2% raise in matchday admission.

Anfield has so often been bouncing at this stage of the season when Liverpool are in the hunt for major trophies, but the atmosphere has been one of anger during the defeats to Atalanta and Crystal Palace, with those two results obviously not helping matters either.

FSG have had an unfortunate habit of taking decisions which badly misjudge the feeling among the majority of fans, and they’ve made a rod for their own backs once more with the announcement over ticket prices for 2024/25.

As football lovers, it can be quite hard to give your heart over to another sport. If there isn’t Luis Diaz taking the gap on the edge of the field or Mo Salah swinging one into the back of the net, then it’s very hard to get massively interested, but we’d suggest that you make an exception for the Grand National.

In the words of Liverpool legend John Barnes, the Grand National is like the FA Cup finals of old – full of excitement, tension, and that grandiose olden-day charm. Whether he’s there to bet on a favourite horse to win or simply there to soak in the atmosphere, it’s a sporting event which can sit alongside any Liverpool fixture.

Don’t believe us? We’re going to run through the top Liverpool stars who have given their heart to both football and horse racing, having been spotted at the Grand National numerous times over the last few years.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Ian Rush

Starting with the Liverpool legend that is Ian Rush. Now 62, the Welshman has become a regular at Aintree Racecourse over the last eight years, and he has recently paid particular homage to its impressive rejuvenation since his younger days as a footballer.

Sadly, while he enjoys watching the races, he isn’t the best at betting the winner. Last year, he backed the Big Breakaway to achieve glory, only to lose out to winner Corach Rambler. Better luck this year, Ian!

John Barnes

We mentioned Digger before, and he’s another Liverpool legend who’s both a regular attendee and a regular bettor – although perhaps not the sort of Grand National bettor to which you’re accustomed.

It was back in his Liverpool glory days that he bet he could beat Alan Hansen in a race to Becher’s Brook. Being at the Grand National, he was wearing a suit and some cowboy boots, and he subsequently pulled his hamstring to miss out on the FA Cup semi-final. His manager wasn’t too mad, though – he had money on Hansen to win.

Fabio Borini

We all want to be as cool as the Italian who first made his name as a Liverpool winger. On the field he looks pretty impressive, but nothing will be as eye-catching as him walking out during the Grand National in 2015 wearing salmon chinos and a suave cream jacket.

With his partner Erin O’Neill wearing a sophisticated 60s-inspired dress beside him, the two of them were undoubtedly the hottest tickets at the Grand National that year.

Michael Owen

Having played for the Reds for seven years before moving to Real Madrid – something we’re still pretty salty about! – he will always be the legendary Liverpool player who netted us 118 goals to bring us the FA Cup, two League Cups, a Super Cup and the UEFA Cup.

Nowadays, he’s swapped the football field for the training paddock. He’s now a co-owner of several horses, and he even netted £169,000 at the Grand National in 2021. Like he needs the money!

Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher arriving at Ladies Day in 2017 will never not be iconic. There he is in a plain blue suit, managing to stand out from a crowd full of brightly coloured outfits and outlandish feather hats. Still, he appeared to be in good spirits, and he probably had a better time than he did in 2020, when we were all treated to a virtual race rather than the real deal.

Thankfully, live events are well and truly back with us, and footballers like Carragher might well be seen strutting their stuff once again come 13 April. As ever, we’ll just have to tune in to find out!

In Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season, Liverpool are right in the midst of one of the most compelling title races that the Premier League has seen in many years.

It would certainly be fitting to see the 56-year-old win the title this spring and close out what has been a glorious era for the Reds with a second top-flight crown. Given the narrative surrounding the club, optimism is high among LFC supporters heading into the final 10 fixtures of the campaign.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Liverpool fans who are confident the Reds can win the Premier League title could consider placing a bet on it. With three bona fide contenders, the odds could be favorable. The key is giving consideration to multiple options and learning more about several betting sites to make sure you choose the right one.

Of course, in such a tight race, LFC aren’t exactly in control of their own destiny. We’ll likely need both Arsenal and Manchester City to drop points to win the Premier League title.

Therefore, the fixtures left on those teams’ schedules are just as important as Liverpool’s remaining matches. With that in mind, let’s take some time to explore how challenging the road to the title might be for the Reds’ two biggest rivals for domestic supremacy.

READ MORE: ‘No, they’re not…’ – Sky pundit shares firm Liverpool verdict for Premier League title race

Arsenal

Today’s match between Arsenal and Man City could be the best thing for Liverpool as one or both of those teams will drop points, giving the Reds an opening to seize first place. Of course, the Gunners have won all eight of their Premier League matches since the start of 2024, so we can’t count on them losing too many games late in the season.

That being said, Mikel Arteta’s side have some challenging fixtures left, especially away from home. In addition to today’s heavyweight showdown, Arsenal’s penultimate match is away at Manchester United. The Gunners will also play Brighton and Wolves away from home, as well as a crucial North London Derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 28. Spurs will surely be looking to play the role of spoiler at their neighbours’ expense, which could end up helping Liverpool.

Arsenal also have home matches late in the season against Aston Villa, Chelsea, and a tricky Bournemouth team. In an ironic twist, the Gunners finish their campaign at home to Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton, who could play a role in potentially handing the Reds the title. That said, we shouldn’t be left reliant on Sean Dyche’s team taking points off Arteta and co.

Of Arsenal’s final 10 matches, six are against teams currently in the top 10 of the table. Five of those six matches are on their travels, too so the Gunners surely have a challenging list of away fixtures left to play. That’s in addition to a midweek London derby against Chelsea, another potential stumbling block for the current league leaders.

Manchester City

Since suffering a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in October, City have lost just one Premier League match. In fact, the Sky Blues have 10 wins and three draws in their last 13 league games, including the 1-1 draw at Liverpool shortly before the March international break. That should give Pep Guardiola’s squad plenty of confidence heading into today’s showdown against the Gunners.

Immediately after that match, the Cityzens play on Wednesday against an Aston Villa side fighting for a top four spot, before taking on Crystal Palace and Luton Town, both of which Guardiola’s side would fully expect to win. They then take a pause from Premier League action in mid-April for the FA Cup semi-finals.

Even after that clash against Chelsea, Man City’s schedule looks manageable. They are on the road against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham and Fulham, along with home matches against Wolves and West Ham United. The fixture at Spurs still needs to be rescheduled and could end up being one of City’s final matches of the season against a team who’ve had their number in recent years.

Just like Arsenal, six of City’s last 10 matches are against teams in the top 10 of the table right now. They both still have to face Aston Villa, Brighton, Luton, Tottenham and Wolves, so their schedules are remarkably similar. The difference is that City will have some of their more challenging matches at home.

What About Liverpool?

Sticking with the theme, the Reds also have to play six of their final 10 matches against teams in the top 10. That includes their last four games of the season against West Ham, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Wolves. A trip to Old Trafford on April 7 to face Manchester United also promises to be a difficult fixture.

On the bright side, the Reds still have manageable games against Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, and Fulham, as well as a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on April 24. Since they no longer have to worry about facing Man City or Arsenal again, one could argue that Liverpool have the most favorable remaining fixtures of the three title contenders.

That alone won’t guarantee a trophy for the Reds, but it does put them in a good position during the last 10 games of what should be a compelling title race.

Liverpool fans have been advised that they may need to bide their time in waiting for Xabi Alonso to make a decision on his future.

The Reds and Bayern Munich are both vying for the 42-year-old’s services amid his exceptional work at Bundesliga champions-elect Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Ben Jacobs has said that the Spaniard will likely defer any major decision until the season ends, out of respect for his current employers, and won’t rush into accepting the first offer made to him.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Broadly echoing a separate report from the Daily Mail‘s Lewis Steele in terms of the timeline of any potential appointment, the journalist outlined: “It’s largely going to be up to Alonso to decide when he wants to take an interview with any club because he’s focused on Leverkusen.

“He’s got a cup semi-final on the horizon, and he’s got a Bundesliga title to try and secure, as well as a Europa League tie against West Ham United, so maybe this international break is a period where some feedback may be given to clubs to start the process. But maybe Alonso wants to wait a few weeks and months and be respectful to Leverkusen.

“This isn’t really about a mad rush. It’s just about making sure that there’s clarity come the summer. That can happen today or tomorrow, but if it’s next week or next month, it won’t set anything back.

“Naturally, Alonso is not going to just take the first offer made to him. He’s going to wait and see what Liverpool do, and probably what Bayern do as well.”

The ever-unflappable Alonso will naturally take stock of every choice available to him, in the knowledge that whatever decision he makes could represent a gamble, just as punters who use kasyno Skrill are faced with do-I-or-don’t-I dilemmas.

The easiest option he could take is to simply preserve the status quo and remain with Leverkusen, where he’d be deified as an iconic figure if, as seems virtually assured now, he leads the club to a maiden Bundesliga title this year.

Such would be his clout in that eventuality that he’d have enormous credit in the bank even if they were to flounder next autumn.

However, Alonso will also be aware that his managerial stock might never be higher than it is now, and that the opportunity to take charge Liverpool or Bayern mightn’t come his way again.

His phenomenal season at the BayArena has conveniently coincided with two of his former clubs seeking new managers to follow on from Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel respectively. When will so many stars align so perfectly for him again?

Any coach who takes over from the 56-year-old at Anfield will know that they face an incredibly hard act to follow, but somebody has to be the first. Why now the current Leverkusen boss?

Alonso must surely be buoyed by his outstanding campaign with Die Werkself, and his five excellent years as a player with the Reds will buy him huge kudos with the Merseyside faithful, who are historically very slow to turn on managers.

The same can’t be said for those at Bayern, where even winning a Bundesliga title mightn’t be enough to spare a coach from getting the sack.

The ball is firmly in the 42-year-old’s court when it comes to where he’ll be managing next season, so he has the luxury of time to decide what’s best for him. Let’s hope the lure of a return to Liverpool proves too difficult to turn down.

We’re now approaching the final 10 gameweeks of the Premier League season, and only goal difference is keeping Liverpool off the top of the table behind Arsenal, with both clubs a single point ahead of Manchester City.

Online casino and sports betting analysts from LeafletCasinos predict that the Reds have a big chance to win the title, since it’s their last season with Jurgen Klopp and the players are extremely motivated.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

“I guess the final match of the season and the fight among Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal will be one of the most fascinating within the last 5 years,” maintains one of our sports experts.

Here are five matches which could make or break Liverpool’s title challenge in 2023/24:

Brighton (H), 31 March

Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign this coming Sunday with a home clash against Brighton, who are unbeaten in their last four meetings against the Reds.

Each of those has come under the stewardship of Roberto De Zerbi, who’s being touted as one of the leading contenders to replace Klopp at Anfield in the summer, thus providing a very intriguing subplot.

With Man City and Arsenal facing each other later that day, this match offers LFC an ideal opportunity to surge to the summit with a win and potentially take charge of the title race should the other contenders draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Man United (A), 7 April

Revenge will be on the minds of Klopp and Liverpool as they visit Old Trafford again, just three weeks on from their agonising FA Cup exit at the hands of their biggest rivals earlier this month.

The Reds will also have a score to settle with Erik ten Hag’s side from the goalless draw at Anfield just before Christmas, when the visitors somehow escaped with a 0-0 draw despite LFC taking 34 shots.

City have taken maximum points off their neighbours this term – we can’t afford to drop any more against the Red Devils. We owe them one!

Everton (A), 24 April

The Merseyside derby was originally scheduled for the weekend of 16/17 March, but FA Cup duty for the Reds means that the Goodison Park trip has now been deferred to late April.

It falls slap bang in the middle of two other away fixtures in the Premier League (Fulham and West Ham), with three trips for Klopp’s side in the space of 144 hours, just after they return from Italy for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta.

Despite Everton’s brushes with relegation over the past couple of years, Liverpool have only won at the home of their local rivals once since the end of 2016.

Tottenham (H), 4 May

Spurs came to Anfield at the same juncture (matchday 36) two years ago and left with a 1-1 draw which ultimately proved very costly for Liverpool, who ended the season one point short of champions Man City.

Reds fans may be fearful of history repeating itself in early May, while there’ll also be a score to settle after the controversy from Luis Diaz’s wrongly disallowed goal in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The last Merseyside meeting of these teams in April 2023 produced seven goals and a stoppage time Diogo Jota winner, so it’s a head-to-head which doesn’t lack for drama.

Aston Villa (A), 11 May

A week later, Liverpool could be involved in another game which may be pivotal not just in the title race, but also the hunt for Champions League football.

Villa have 10 wins out of 14 on their own patch in the top flight so far this season, so this promises to be one of the Reds’ toughest fixtures during the run-in.

There’s also a firm possibility that it’ll pit together two teams who’ve just come off the back of a European semi-final, with LFC  favourites to win the Europa League and Unai Emery’s side sure to fancy their chances in the Conference League.

Liverpool is one of the most popular football clubs in the world and, where English football is concerned, one of the most historic. The Reds have been around since 1892 and have produced some of the best players the sport has ever known.

The likes of Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard are some of the most recognisable names in football, and they became era-defining legends at Anfield.

With numerous footballers leaving Europe for the MLS in the United States towards the twilight of their careers, several Liverpool players have made the switch to the American top flight.

Here are five of the best.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Steven Gerrard

Gerrard, or Stevie G as he’s affectionately known, is one of the most famous midfielders to ever represent Liverpool and England. He debuted for the first team in 1998 and went on to play 17 seasons with the Reds, whom he captained for 12 years.

Now the manager of Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq, the 43-year-old was known for his passing and scoring ability, as well as his excellent leadership. While he was never able to win the Premier League with LFC, he did help them to win the Champions League, two FA Cups, and three League Cups.

He left the club in 2015 having made 710 appearances, moving to LA Galaxy. His stay in California comprised just 39 games, but he contributed five goals and 15 assists before leaving to pursue a career in management.

Djimi Traore

Traore was part of the Liverpool team which won the Champions League in 2005, and he played a major role in their triumph in Istanbul that year, although some best remember him for a shocking own goal which saw the Reds eliminated from the FA Cup by Burnley earlier that year.

The Malian made 141 appearances for Liverpool before his departure in 2006. He played for several other clubs before joining Seattle Sounders in 2013, with one of his most memorable performances seeing him produce an incredible volleyed goal from 30 yards in a CONCACAF Champions League fixture.

He subsequently became the team’s assistant manager before leaving in 2021. He’s now a coach with the Right To Dream Academy in Ghana.

Xherdan Shaqiri

The Swiss attacker joined Liverpool in 2018 after spells at Basel, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Stoke City. He made 45 appearances for the Reds, netting seven goals, before he was released upon the end of his contract after three years.

Shaqiri agreed to a deal with French club Lyon but things went sour after just four months. He moved to the MLS in 2022, joining Chicago Fire, where he still plies his trade.

They are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference after four games of the 2024 MLS season, with Charlotte FC breathing down their necks in 11th place. This could make things interesting for sports betting in North Carolina when they face off on May 15.

Robbie Keane

Keane left Tottenham Hotspur for Liverpool in 2008 following a successful spell which saw him score 80 goals for the north London outfit.

in tandem with Fernando Torres, the goalscoring burden lay on his shoulders, with expectations high after his £19m move. Unfortunately, he was not able to replicate his Spurs form on Merseyside and he returned to his previous club after just six months.

The Irishman joined LA Galaxy in 2011 after spells at West Ham and Celtic. He had quite an enjoyable time in the States as he registered a whopping 105 goals in 170 games, winning three MLS Cups while earning MLS MVP and MLS Cup MVP honors.

He returned to England for a short loan spell with Aston Villa in 2016 before moving to Indian Super League side ATK. He’s now the manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel.

Roy Evans

The Liverpool legend also played in the United States, though not in the MLS.

Evans, who joined the Reds in 1963 and spent almost his entire career with them, played 19 games for Philadelphia Atoms in the North American Soccer League in the summer of 1973, scoring twice.

“We ended up winning the league and becoming the first rookie team to win a national championship in the USA in any sport,” he told LFChistory.net.

Evans went on to become Liverpool manager in 1994, holding the reins until 1998, when a co-management experiment alongside the late Gerard Houllier didn’t last and the Frenchman was duly left in sole charge.

Brighton (H), 31 March

It’s now been just over two years since Liverpool last got the better of the Seagulls, who’ve won two and drawn two of the subsequent four meetings.

The south coast club have proven to be Jurgen Klopp’s Kryptonite, but the Reds can’t afford to drop points at home to the team currently in eighth, especially when the clash of Man City and Arsenal later that day offers us a perfect chance to steal a march on the other two title contenders.

Sheffield United (H), 4 April

At home to the division’s bottom club, in theory this is Liverpool’s easiest match of the run-in, although Chris Wilder’s men gave us a good game of it in our 2-0 win at Bramall Lane in December.

The Blades have shipped some horrendous batterings in recent weeks, though, and the Reds might privately view this fixture as a chance to reel in some of Arsenal’s goal difference advantage.

Antony is challenged by Luis Diaz during the Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final match between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on March 17, 2024. (Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images)

Manchester United (A), 7 April

Revenge will be on Liverpool minds when they go to Old Trafford just three weeks after a sickening FA Cup exit at the same venue.

The Reds should’ve had United dead and buried in normal time long before Antony’s equaliser, so there are lessons to be learned from last weekend’s chastening visit to Manchester.

READ MORE: Liverpool ‘interested’ in 25y/o who’s wanted by EPL rivals as potential ‘plan B’

Crystal Palace (H), 14 April

The Eagles might only be 14th in the table at present, but they’ve been tricky opponents for Liverpool in recent clashes, with two draws last season and a stoppage time Harvey Elliot winner needed to ensure a win at Selhurst Park earlier in this campaign.

Darwin Nunez was sent off in the previous edition of this fixture on his competitive home debut for the Reds. He’ll be looking to make headlines for an altogether more positive reason next month.

Fulham (A), 21 April

Liverpool have drawn their last three visits to Craven Cottage, an outcome they can ill afford in a month’s time if they’re to keep their title ambitions intact.

However, the Reds will take heart from already scoring two victories over Marco Silva’s outfit this season, 4-3 in the Premier League and 2-1 in the Carabao Cup, even if both were achieved from losing positions.

Everton (A), TBC

The Goodison Park clash has yet to be rescheduled, although it’ll likely take place around 24 April, currently one of just two guaranteed free midweeks for Liverpool.

Five of our last six away Merseyside derbies have ended in draws, with the 0-0 stalemate in 2019 ultimately proving so costly as the Reds missed out on the title by one point to Man City that year. Klopp will be determined to avoid a similar fate in his swansong campaign.

West Ham (A), 27 April

Liverpool could still potentially meet David Moyes’ side twice more this season, with both teams still involved in the Europa League, although the only way they can meet in that tournament is if they both get to the final.

The Reds won 2-1 at the London Stadium at a similar juncture of the 2022/23 campaign. A repeat of that scoreline would do just fine once again!

Tottenham (H), 4 May

Liverpool have ghosts to lay against Spurs, who drew at Anfield in the title run-in two years ago (another season where we came second by one point) and won 2-1 in the hugely controversial reverse fixture earlier this term.

The team served up a seven-goal thriller in this fixture just over a year ago. Klopp will hope that three points can be secured in more straightforward fashion this time around.

Aston Villa (A), 11 May

The Reds’ final domestic away assignment this season (as it stands) sees them travel to the Midlands to take on an Aston Villa side who could still have a Champions League place in the balance by mid-May.

Liverpool triumphed 3-1 away to Unai Emery’s team on their previous visit – the same outcome could be priceless to the Merseysiders this term.

Wolves (H), 19 May

Wolves also provided the final-day opposition at Anfield in 2019 and 2022, both of which ended in Liverpool wins on the day but a muted post-match atmosphere as Man City triumphed elsewhere to take the Premier League title by a point.

Surely the Reds’ luck won’t be so bad that lightning will strike thrice…will it?

Mo Salah has been Liverpool’s top goalscorer for each of the last six seasons, and he leads the way again this campaign after netting his 21st in all competitions during last Sunday’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Egyptian is likely to claim top spot again but which Red will be up there with him? This article assesses our forward players as Jurgen Klopp’s men strive to lift the Premier League and Europa League trophies in May.

Having already claimed the Carabao Cup, the Reds will be aiming to make it a memorable treble before the German’s emotional departure from Anfield.

The Names in the Frame

Liverpool have already scored more than 100 goals across the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup this season. Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have ably supported sharp-shooter Salah in firing the Reds to numerous wins all season. Here’s a look at how each attacker has fared so far in 2023/24

Football fans keen to back their favourite Liverpool players for the top scorer award, can assess scores and odds before placing a wager. This allows bettors to make an informed decision based on the stats and results recorded throughout the season.

Darwin Nunez

The Uruguayan is enjoying his second season on Merseyside since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2022 and currently has 17 goals to his name in all competitions.

A player who can miss a glaring opportunity and then net a stunning strike moments later, Nunez has started to find more consistency for Liverpool and has scored six goals in his last seven matches for the club.

Currently second in the scoring charts, as LFC’s leading centre-forward, he will be determined to have his name in lights alongside Salah in the final tally at the end of the season.

Diogo Jota

The forward has only made 28 appearances this season due to injury but has still recorded a goal tally of 14. With a strike rate of one every 112 minutes, Jota is a key player for Liverpool and is set to return to action following the international break.

A versatile option across all of the forward positions, the 27-year-old combines skill with a relentless work-rate, and he regularly finds himself popping up in the right place at the right time.

The Portugal international’s comeback is a boost for Klopp, and seemingly capable of scoring whether starting or coming on from the bench, he will be confident of netting as many as Nunez during the vital run-in.

Cody Gakpo

Gakpo has been a big plus for Liverpool since joining from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, mixing pace with guile to provide the team with a new dimension upfront.

The Netherlands international has scored a total of 20 goals for the Reds, with 13 in this campaign, hitting a brace in the emphatic 6-1 victory over Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Already making more than 40 Liverpool appearances this term by March, the 24-year-old has now played in the Premier League for more than a year and is adept at several different types of finish.

With two months of the season remaining, the attacker’s input is set to be key as the Reds navigate their two most important competitions of the campaign domestically and on the continent.

Luis Diaz

Liverpool’s number 7 has chipped in with an important 11 goals so far this season and will play an integral role for the remainder of the campaign.

Boasting neat skill and clever movement in and around the penalty box, the Colombia international can find the net and is also the perfect foil for his teammates, creating space and energy in the final third to open up opposition defences.

Diaz netted important goals in Liverpool’s opening Premier League games against Chelsea and Bournemouth last August and will be hoping to have the same impact in the matches at the business end of the campaign.

Who Will be King of Liverpool Assists?

Salah and Nunez have recorded the most assists for Liverpool this season, teeing up 12 goals each. While the Egyptian is often regarded as the Reds’ talisman and so often delivers when the team needs him most, the numbers prove how crucial the Uruguayan is in how Klopp’s team set up at home and in Europe.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, so effective and a constant assists supplier, has recorded nine during a season which has included spells in midfield, while Harvey Elliott’s swift eye for a pass has seen him set up seven goals. Alexis McAllister, who is equally adept at playing the ball through the eye of a needle, has six assists while Conor Bradley has recorded the same number in just 18 appearances.

Summing Up

Nunez is scoring goals at a regular rate and is having an important impact alongside Salah. As it stands, he’s likely to push the Egyptian King for the title of Reds’ top scorer for 2023/24, but Jota, Gakpo and Diaz will all have a huge say during the remaining two months of the campaign.

With its rich heritage and fanatical support, Liverpool Football Club has been part of some of the most exciting and emotionally charged matches in football history.

From unforgettable comebacks to triumphant wins at the highest level, the Reds have given their supporters and football aficionados alike plenty of reasons to relish their performances, making fans learn how to bet on sports to capitalise on their monumental wins.

Here is a quick dive into five of the most interesting and pivotal matches which have defined LFC’s legacy.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

1. The Miracle of Istanbul – UEFA Champions League Final, 2005

Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul was the venue which hosted the 2005 UEFA Champions League final, and perhaps the most iconic match in Liverpool’s entire history.

Up against AC Milan, the Reds were 3-0 down at half-time against a team with living legends like Paolo Maldini and Kaká, but that didn’t stop them from managing to turn it around.

The second half was a miracle, with goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer, and Xabi Alonso bringing the match into extra time and eventually a penalty shootout.

Jerzy Dudek’s heroics led to Milan only scoring two of their spot kicks, while Liverpool converted three, securing the win and completing one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of football.

2. Last-gasp Lovren v Dortmund – UEFA Europa League Quarter-Final, 2016

The 2016 Europa League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund easily makes this list. Trailing 3-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate, Liverpool needed an almighty miracle to progress to the semi-finals.

Cue Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren stepping up to deliver goals of their own, turning the game into another incredible comeback win at 4-3 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate. This match epitomised the ‘never say die’ attitude that Jurgen Klopp instilled in his first season at Anfield.

Liverpool would go on to lose the final against Sevilla, but their performance in the last eight against Dortmund became the stuff of legend.

3. The 2001 FA Cup Final – Liverpool v Arsenal

The 2001 FA Cup final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium was a prime example of Liverpool’s spirit to prevail against the odds and ability to come back from a seemingly bleak situation.

For the most part, Arsenal had the upper hand, hitting the front with a goal from Freddie Ljungberg in the 72nd minute. That seemed to spell the end for the Reds until Michael Owen managed to turn things around.

In the final few minutes minutes of the game, the England striker delivered big time, netting two goals which completely flipped the script on the Gunners. His second goal in particular was a brilliant display of skill and precision, securing the FA Cup for Liverpool.

This match wasn’t just another win – it was a pivotal moment in the Reds’ 2000/01 season, forming part of their incredible treble triumph which also included the League Cup and UEFA Cup.

4. The 4-3 Thriller v Newcastle – Premier League, 1996

Liverpool has such a long history that, even going back almost 30 years, you can still easily find a historic match which is still talked about today.

On 3 April 1996, the Reds and Newcastle United played out what many consider to be the greatest Premier League match of all time. In a season where the Magpies were fighting for the title, this match at Anfield had major implications for both teams.

The game swung back and forth, with Liverpool eventually emerging victorious in a 4-3 thriller thanks to a last-minute winning goal from Stan Collymore.

This battle was a prime example of the attacking football strategy that both clubs used and has since become a cherished memory for fans of Liverpool, capturing the essence of why the Premier League is so beloved around the world.

5. The Barcelona Comeback – UEFA Champions League Semi-Final, 2019

Facing a 3-0 deficit from the first leg at Camp Nou, Liverpool’s task in the second leg of the 2019 Champions League semi-final seemed insurmountable, especially without key players Mo Salah and Bobby Firmino due to injury.

What transpired at Anfield was another historic European night. An early goal from Divock Origi and a quickfire second half double from Gini Wijnaldum levelled the aggregate score.

The Belgian’s second goal of the night, from a quickly taken corner by Trent Alexander-Arnold, completed the comeback, sending Liverpool to the final, where they would go on to lift their sixth European Cup. This match not only demonstrated the Reds’ incredible fighting spirit, but also Klopp’s tactical ingenuity.

These five matches aren’t the only occasions where Liverpool have beaten the odds or given their fans a result to savour for a lifetime, but they’re certainly among the most well-known.

They’re a true testament to the Reds’ ability to turn a losing position into a winning one through skill, defiance and experience, and they should never be underestimated or considered down for the count until the full-time whistle blows and everything is said and done.

As one of the foremost football clubs in the world, the demand for authentic signed Liverpool memorabilia is riding high. From signed LFC shirts to captain’s armbands and autographed photos, the market is booming. We look at the best items to look out for, with some advice and guidance from a seasoned professional.

Some of the most expensive pieces are heritage items from the club’s long and illustrious history. Match-worn shirts, caps, medals and trophies are some of the hottest items to look out for. For example, if you spot a vintage Liverpool shirt – preferably match-worn – then it’s the holy grail for collectors; and the older the shirt, the higher the value, as long as it’s in good condition.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Many collectors have their items framed, protecting them from sunshine and household dust. If the item is signed, then it’s really important to protect it from sunlight. Otherwise the autograph will fade, not to mention the red dye of the shirt!

What are the most expensive items of LFC memorabilia ever sold? One of the oldest is a League Championship medal from 1906. It was awarded to Liverpool player John Cox and sold for £25,000, more than he earned playing for the club during his entire career!

Another League Championship medal sold for £30,000; this one was awarded to Tom Bromilow in the 1922/23 season. Meanwhile, Kevin Keegan‘s 1977 European Cup final shirt worn during the defeat of Borussia Monchengladbach sold at auction for £55,000 in 2018, a new record at the time.

However, the award for the most expensive piece of Liverpool memorabilia ever sold goes to Steven Gerrard, whose 2005 UEFA Champions League final shirt, which he wore in the game against AC Milan, went at auction for a staggering £280,000 in 2019.

It’s a record for a British player and the most expensive piece of LFC memorabilia every sold! Gerrard scored his team’s first goal that night and was awarded man of the match.

Left to right: A fully signed Liverpool shirt, Steven Gerrard, Mo Salah, Luis Suárez and Alisson Becker

We asked Peter Johnson, head coach at online memorabilia store Firma Stella, what to buy and where from. He replied: “It’s important to buy something that you are passionate about. It’s like art, really; if you are going to frame an item and put it on your wall, then you’re going to be looking at it for some time. It’s that special connection to the club or player that makes for the best memorabilia – that moment, that game, that goal!

“Some of the most expensive items you can buy of signed Liverpool memorabilia are shirts, but they are expensive. If money is tight, start with a signed photograph, and when you can afford it, move onto some of the more expensive items.

“A few words of advice – be careful where you buy from as there are fakes around, particularly in unregulated online auctions. We guarantee that all our items are genuine with a lifetime guarantee and a holographic certificate of origin. The hologram on the COA matches that on the item.”

Whatever you decide, the market for Liverpool memorabilia is booming as fewer items come to market and are snapped up by wealthy collectors. The important thing to remember when shopping out there is to get the item at a reasonable price; then you can look forward to it rising in value in time as well.

From signed shirts to simple autographs, there is a choice for every collector and all can be framed for display – even football boots and balls, which can have their own bubble frames!

The quadruple? A quadruple? Either way, it doesn’t matter now…

Manchester United’s stunning comeback victory against Liverpool at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup means that Jurgen Klopp’s dream of bowing out of his current stint in charge of the Reds with four trophies is now over.

He came close to completing the feat in 2022, when his side secured both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. However, LFC missed out on the Premier League title on the final day of the campaign to Manchester City, before also losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid despite being dominant throughout.

Liverpool already have the Carabao Cup in the bank following Virgil van Dijk’s late winner in the final against Chelsea at Wembley, and they are also still alive in the Premier League and the Europa League.

In fact, victory in the latter competition is almost looking like a formality to some. Websites which provide betting and offers on the tournament, such as BetMGM free bets and their bet £10 get £60, make the Reds an even-money favourite. One thing for certain, though, is that no matter how many trophies the Merseysiders finish up with this season, their maverick German manager won’t be at Anfield in the summer.

Klopp is leaving, but who are the main candidates looking to take his place in the dugout? Let’s take a look.

Xabi Alonso

The one man that seemingly every Scouser wants at Anfield next season is former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso. The iconic Spaniard delivered great results throughout his stint in Merseyside between 2004 and 2009, winning the Champions League and the FA Cup whilst developing into one of the finest midfielders on the planet. However, it is his development as a coach which has taken the world by storm.

The former Real Madrid man took over at Bayer Leverkusen last season when they were battling to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga. Little more than 12 months on, his side are on the brink of ending Bayern Munich’s 12-year stranglehold on the Meisterschale. Alonso is also leading his team into the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal and the quarter-finals of the Europa League. In fact, they are without a loss in all competitions all season and are currently 38 games unbeaten.

Alonso’s philosophy, rooted in possession-based football with an emphasis on tactical flexibility, echoes elements of Klopp’s approach while also introducing his own unique insights. The 42-year-old’s stint with Real Sociedad’s B Team, in which he led them to the top of their league early in the season, showcased his ability to inspire and elevate young talent – a crucial attribute for any Liverpool manager, considering the club’s emphasis on nurturing youth players.

Photo by Jack Hunter on Unsplash

Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim is relatively young in his managerial career but has already etched his name among Europe’s tactical innovators.

Steering Sporting CP to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years in the 2020/21 season, the 39-year-old demonstrated his prowess in building a cohesive unit which balances defensive solidity and attacking flair. His system, often featuring a 3-4-3 formation, encourages fluidity and adaptability – traits which’d resonate well with a Liverpool side known for its dynamic attacking play.

Amorim’s success in integrating young prospects with seasoned veterans could blend seamlessly with the Reds’ squad dynamics.

Pep Lijnders

Serving as Klopp’s assistant since 2018, Pep Lijnders presents an intriguing option from within Liverpool’s coaching ranks. His intimate knowledge of the squad and the club’s culture, plus the intricacies of the outgoing manager’s system, positions him as a continuity candidate.

The Dutchman has been instrumental in developing Liverpool’s high-intensity pressing game and is credited with influencing the team’s tactical evolutions over recent years.

His promotion to the top job could ensure a smooth transition. Lijnders would be able to maintain the core principles which have brought the club success, while potentially introducing fresh tactical ideas drawn from his extensive coaching background.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has garnered acclaim for his work with Sassuolo in Serie A and, more recently, Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. Known for his attacking philosophy and commitment to playing attractive, progressive football, the Italian has demonstrated an ability to maximise the potential of his squads, often exceeding expectations.

Under his guidance, the Seagulls have evolved into a formidable side capable of beating the Premier League’s elite, as well as reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League. The 44-year-old’s philosophy aligns with the attacking ethos that Liverpool fans cherish, making him a compelling candidate for the Anfield hot seat.

Fabrizio Romano has addressed rumours regarding Jurgen Klopp’s next move after he steps aside as Liverpool manager at the end of this season.

Just as speculation continues to abound over who’ll take over at Anfield – with many punters placing wagers on the outcome in online casinos Asia – there’s also been plenty of discourse as to where the 56-year-old will end up next.

He’s found himself strongly linked with the Germany national team job, with incumbent Julian Nagelsmann currently set to vacate the role after Euro 2024, but the Italian reporter doesn’t envisage the current Reds boss taking charge of his country any time soon.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

In his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside on Monday, Romano wrote: “We inevitably keep hearing more speculation about Jurgen Klopp’s future after he leaves Liverpool this summer, with some rumours about the German national team job for 2026.

“The only thing I know for sure right now is that Klopp is not intending to speak to any club or national team now – no chance. Germany have Julian Nagelsmann now, a top coach, so their full focus on the Euros and we will see after that. But for sure Klopp won’t negotiate anything now or this summer, no way.”

When Klopp announced towards the end of January that he’d be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, he attributed his decision to ‘running out of energy’. With those words in mind, it’s hard to imagine him going straight into another job after his time at Anfield comes to an end.

He’s worked virtually non-stop in football management since 2001, so it’s wholly understandable that he feels a break is needed, just as Pep Guardiola took a one-year sabbatical between his stints at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

As a German, the 56-year-old is likely to view taking charge of his national team as a huge honour, but the timing will inevitably be a critical factor.

Even though international jobs don’t carry the same relentlessness in terms of fixtures as managing a club, the Nationalmannschaft gig is one of the most pressurised in world football, especially at a time when Germany have flopped at several major tournaments in succession.

The flip side is that, should they disappoint again at Euro 2024 and Nagelsmann makes way, his successor may view the role as an opportunity to awaken one of the sport’s sleeping giants, rather than having a tall order to follow (something that Klopp’s successor at Liverpool will have to negotiate).

There’s every chance that we see the current Reds boss in a dugout again, but Romano’s assertion indicates that it won’t be any time soon once his tenure at Anfield concludes.

Fabrizio Romano is expecting all three teams currently involved in the Premier League title race to still be in the mix when May rolls around.

A dramatic weekend saw Arsenal go top of the table after their late win over Brentford on Saturday, while Liverpool and Manchester City served up a thriller at Anfield which finished all square, leaving just one point separating the trio going into the final 10 matches of the campaign.

In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, the Italian claimed that the three-horse race is too close to call at the moment, even if some punters might be willing to stick their neck out and back one of the teams involved on the best betting sites in Ireland.

FOLLOW Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

Romano wrote: “It was a fantastic game between Liverpool and Manchester City, as expected. Obviously a lot of people are saying the draw is a good result for Arsenal, but I still believe title race will see all three teams involved until the final games. This looks like being an insane race, with just one point separating the top three.

“Credit to Liverpool, who were fantastic even with many players out, but also Man City were able to resist in a difficult game at Anfield. As for Arsenal, they showed good character to win the game late on against Brentford, and I expect them to be there.”

We’ve seen Liverpool and City serve up some enthralling title races in the Pep Guardiola-Jurgen Klopp era, but this year’s has an added dimension with Arsenal also in the mix.

The weekend’s results have kept not just Romano but all of us guessing as to who’ll eventually be hoisting the Premier League trophy in front of their jubilant fans in two months’ time.

The Reds have the comfort of knowing that they’ve already played the other two contenders twice, whereas City and Arsenal meet each other at the Etihad Stadium at the end of this month.

Interestingly, the two teams immediately behind the title-chasing trio (Aston Villa and Tottenham) both have to play against each of the top three, so the Champions League chasers could have a significant say in which team finishes in first place.

Liverpool fans will take huge encouragement from how we’ve prevailed through an injury crisis which deprived us of several first-team stalwarts and still kept ourselves in the hunt for Premier League glory.

With the likes of Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai having now returned, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota among those still to come back, the Reds could have every chance of keeping pace with – or even surpassing – City and Arsenal over the final 10 weeks of the season.

Strap yourselves in; it’s going to be eventful and pulsating!

For millions of football fans worldwide who never get to play the sport professionally, their dreams of winning major trophies with their beloved club are lived out through video games.

However, according to ExpressVPN, there are also quite a few footballers at the highest level who can’t get enough of blasting their way to glory on EA Sports FC and the like.

Among Liverpool’s squad, perhaps the best-known lover of such video games is Diogo Jota, whose passion for the virtual version of the sport at which he excels has been borne out by him establishing his own eSports team.

The 27-year-old also regularly partakes in forfeit challenges when playing EA Sports FC (formerly the FIFA series), and when the 2022/23 version of the game was released, he shot up to sixth in the world rankings on FIFA Ultimate Team (Liverpool Echo).

If you think that’s impressive, he was once ranked as the number one player worldwide on FIFA 21!

Jota’s love for video games also occasionally manifests itself in his goal celebrations. After scoring against Southampton during the 2021/22 season, and following his stoppage time winner against Tottenham last April, he sat on the floor and mimed playing a games console.

You can go all the way back to the global lockdown during the first wave of the global pandemic four years ago to see just how proficient the Portugal winger is at football gaming.

He actually came up against Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final of the FIFA 20 ePremier League Invitational, when Liverpool’s current number 20 was playing for Wolves and representing them in the game. The Reds may have cruised to the actual league title that year, but Jota came out on top in the virtual battle, defeating the Scouser 2-1.

Diogo doesn’t have sole dibs at Anfield on being an avid gamer, though – Cody Gakpo is also known to be fond of computerised football.

Earlier this season, the Dutchman partook in a concentration challenge with Premier League Uncut host Ben Black, in which the 24-year-old was asked a series of questions sent in by audience members while playing EA Sports FC.

He and Nat Phillips also went up against Jota and musician Jamie Webster in a no-rules FIFA 23 challenge, which was every bit as good-natured as you’d expect from those participating!

Liverpool’s players have been doing the business on the pitch – where it counts for real – this season, and a few Reds clearly like to switch off with a video game or two as well.

On Sunday afternoon, the biggest game of the Premier League season so far will be upon us as Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield.

It’s a meeting of the current top two in the table, and also the teams who’ve shared the last six titles between them, serving up some memorable tussles for supremacy in that time.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds go into the match in first place, just a solitary point clear of Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions, and they’ll be hoping for a repeat of what happened in this fixture last season, when Mo Salah’s winning goal sent the Kop into raptures.

Given how tightly this year’s Premier League title battle is being contested, there’s a case to be made for Sunday’s clash being decisive in the final reckoning. A win for either team would feel like a definitive statement, while a draw would keep us all guessing.

The English top flight attracts a global audience of millions every weekend, and you can be sure that interest in this fixture will be the highest for any game so far this season. However, if you’re still dreaming of going to Anfield rather than watching on TV, here’s everything you need to know about tickets for Liverpool v Man City.
